WOE IS ME.

The early review stuff suggested it was much better on PC than either console and suffers from low framerate and some laggy sections (specifically on 360 but i'm assuming the PS3 will be the same)

Face-off at Eurogamer is here, even a relatively low-spec PC handles it fairly well apparently (which admittedly you'd expect on the cusp of the next-gen console release).

Both console versions feature very erratic framerates without v-sync (i.e. loads of screen tearing), only the 360 has a v-sync option which of course hurts the framerate even more.

Saints Row 3 was down to stupid cheap in the Steam Summer Sale but for some unknown reason I didn't snag it and it's back up to £20 now :'( Saints Row 4 is currently £40, which is a bit rich for my taste.

I actually think the way they've done it is really clever. They know the current consoles will creak, so the fact that they've set the game where they have means it totally doesn't matter, in fact it even adds to the immersion. Clever.

They also refer back to the bugs that plagued the first game in the series. I chuckled when I saw baddies arrive in invisible cars.

Does it include hilarious japes about finishing a co-op mission in SR2 and then disconnecting your partner for no reason before it had chance to save?

Never had that happen to me through the 40 odd hours me and Poiks put into 2, or the 50 odd we put into 3. Maybe your spacky innnernehs were to blame.

Why would it only happen on that one game then?

SR3 has been in the humble bundle twice (so cost 60p to buy) , i would have had a spare key but the 2nd time they just gave a key for 'all' items instead of splitting it out - I'd keep an eye out because i'd expect it to drop down again at some point - its the type of thing Amazon UK would do to kick off their UK digital sale or be included in a sale with some other 3rd party

BTW you should not simply look on the main steam page for prices - thats one of the advantages of steam - everyone sells the keys so you could pick it up for £17 from Amazon or if you are wanting it i've found an offer just now

http://digital.gamefly.co.uk/#!/downloa ... ge/5004915

Full package (so all DLC) for £5.99 - you buy it - get a key and enter it into steam and you have the game.

Gamefly are a reputable company and i've bought stuff from them before if your worried about a random website

Oooohhh cheers zaphod that looks like just the ticket, I'm really after something to get my teeth into at the moment since finishing Borderlands 2 and Dishonored and all of the DLC for both. CSGO is great of course but I tend to just play 30 relatively brief sessions on that.

I'll give GameFly a try :)

Yeah thats cause you use funny money and dont live in a real country :-)

(I've never had any issue buying from them in the past and did not have to have things 'verified' but I have seen that with other digital resellers who want to at least check on paypal addresses or such like)

Just got an email through to say the sale is completed, and with that came the activation key.

Copied and pasted it into Steam's activation thingy and I now have Saints Row 3 installing.

Cheers for the heads-up on this one zaphod - excellent tip! :)

Installed and working fine, channelled in all the DLC without a hitch once I got to the first 'crib' as well.

Played through the opening missions and got to the 'proper' start of the game, but I'll take actual SR3 stuff over to the relevant thread as this one is for SR4.

Thanks once again though zaphod, a splendid spot there :)

Sigh. Final mission bug for you.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
after taking the key into the building and CID is asking you to destroy breakers, don't press on your Quests log in the menu. Fucks the game and you have to start the mission all over again. Twice this has happened to me now.

Edit, in fact it hangs the game if you do that at any point during the final mission.

This is really good fun. The running and jumping reminds me of Crackdown and The Incredible Hulk on the original Xbox, both of which I loved!

It's quite glitchy isn't it? Last night I got stuck in the falling down animation.

It doesn't take away from the fun though. The Dubstep gun is probably the best weapon I've seen in a game since the Shark gun from Armed and Dangerous on the original Xbox.

He who would take a dull game that works properly over a fun game that is glitchy deserves neither fun nor worky-properly.

Dead Rising is fun and glitchy. I found SR1 and 2 both dull AND glitchy.

The first ones collision detection for some things was pretty ropey , you could get caught in specific animations which ended up in basically you being unable to do things - on the other hand that ropey AI tracking also worked in your favour that you could stand behind the right obstacle and be invulnerable to their attacks.

The 'if this happens then trigger this' mechanic for the timed missions also could work against you if you mis-timed some stuff which produced some almost (but not quite) game breaking bugs , and some other silly limitations went against you for some of the achievements (e.g. you would not get messages if you were in a certain area)

Its got a number of flaws but still remains one of my favorite games.

Do you know this to be the case?

And what if they have bassline or dancehall guns?

New one coming out (kinda)
I assume it's probably shorter than IV, as it's advertised as a stand alone expansion and is only £14.99
Still, it looks good (well, it looks like you'd expect Saints Row to). And you get to play as Johnny Gat.
