Be Excellent To Each Other

Hello everyone who bothers to read BeeX WeeX each week.

This week I'm Skyping from Awesome Island where, in a "Surprise, Surprise"-style, my bedroom has been flown over. Now, I don't want to get all girly on you today but I'm flattered that my little drawing was appreciated last week on Awesome Island and I thought I'd share something with you this week from my archives. Now, first of all a disclaimer, I had a happy normal childhood - but I also liked to doodle gory stuff (I really liked the first 10 editions of AvP and I lurved black and white horror comic Scream). I always fancied drawing a comic but could never find the time or inclination so, when I should have been listening to the teacher, I was drawing little crap pictures that, for some reason, I thought I'd save. So I've gone into my cupboard and rifled through my box of memories to find them for you.



And here they are.

Please note that I have never - repeat NEVER - shown these to anyone ever. EVER. No girlfriends (Why would you, aye?), friends or parents. No one. So it's with great reluctance that I am going to post them on here.



I used to do 1001 Ways to Die for some reason so I'll shove some of these in here.

I looked and I've also got a cartoon about Turrican, zombies, gangsters, Aliens and Old Dirty Bastard for some reason so I reckon I'd drawn these about 1995-ish. Never before seen and they are going back into the bottom of my cupboard to languish. So thank you BeeX for allowing me to share some of these with you for no other reason than I thought they were cool when I drew them years and years ago. Yes, yes, I probably watched too many horror films, action movies, played violent computer games and listened to rap music about bitches and ho's.

Erm... the turn the pictures around arrows aren't working, so I'd be grateful if everyone could just turn your monitors on the side when you reach the offending pictures. Also, I don't know why that last picture is on there cause I didn't want to use it. But it's a drawing of some gangsters. Shooting each other. Bloody rap music warped my tiny little mind.

Everyone lost interest when my poem didn't win.

Plus I hated it and I'm glad it's dead.

Really? Well, I didn't mind it but it would be good to have some volunteers to put it together.

Perhaps we need to think of something new for it? I haven't any ideas, but would welcome some.

They were never funny enough to be featured.

Hate is probably too strong for me, but it was self-indulgent tosh. I'm not sure what purpose it really served apart from an unnecessary weekly back-slapping session.

I always considered it was for exactly that purpose?

I suppose it started as an archive of interesting stuff with a bonus POST OF THE WEEK! at that end, but over time has degraded into a huge list of POTW noms and little else. Shame really. It used to be a highlight of the week, waiting to see what framing device the Beex Weeker would choose. You can't deny that some of the classic moments of the forum have been through Beex Weex. I'm thinking TheVision's totally unexpected video presentation specifically.

If it is indeed to left to die, could a mod maybe gather up the threads and archive them for posterity?

Well, I'm happy to do it this week. I rather enjoy it.

I like that if someone makes a joke or post I like, that I can just hit the NOM button instead of posting a smiley face or similar.

I do appreciate that the people who don't like it haven't made a scene and have just ignored it though. Some people on here could learn a lot from that

I didn't like the way it a) encouraged people to be "funny", and b) just like Curio says - discouraged them from posting on the forum.

I also didn't like it when I wasn't on it - but that's a weird personal thing that I need to work out.

I was gobsmacked it was still going upon my return after seven months away, to be honest. It did well to last as long as it did.

I think it served a purpose, I don't read every thread so would miss out on some of the posts made in those threads if they weren't highlighted in beex weex. I don't imagine I am alone in that regard.

There were some Beex Weexes that were essentially POTW in their own right, so for that I was happy for them to exist. I recall loving a few, but Vision's video one sticks out in the memory. There were some clever bits of writing too.

And given how much grief (or 'banter') we give each other on a daily basis, there is nothing wrong with being nice once a week. We try being 'funny' anyway, so that's not really a negative on the BW.
