I thought the nozzle in the can was blocked, so I removed it and ran a bit of wire through it. That didn't seem to work, so I removed it again, and stuck the wire into the can, and then paint came out onto my face. Which was quite the surprise.

I'm back at work, post-holiday, and Armpits has taken a week off.

This is good. I have decided that she is difficult to like. All her stuff was all over my desk. She's been into my desk drawer and rifled my pen jar as she also has all my pens. On my desk was also a Tupperware container of all bits of cut fruit. Apples, orange, strawberries, lemons. It's all cut in pieces, some bits eaten, and she's left it for nine days. Along with an unrefrigerated yoghurt. And three half cups of tea.

It's pretty gross.

Dump it all back on her desk and take a photo. Email it to your boss.

I've moved it all back to her desk, as far away as I can get it. Manager has chucked some loose fruit. Tupperware with fruit still there. She'll have to deal with it when she gets back.

Ruddy hell, the old people in town are rude today.

Let one pair of old dears out of a shop doorway saying "after you" only be be ignored. Then I let an old bloke in a wheelchair past and not only did I get no acknowledgement but he nearly ran over my feet and caused me to nearly fall backwards into a shop display.

Finally cycled in to work. It was lovely along the canal and very quiet. Smashed into the top 50 on some Strava sections as well. Aiming for top ten. Should be doable once the bike is at 100%.

Ah, office politics. :)
I remember working in a "grown up", proper office environment once, though it was more than a decade ago now. Around here, anyone leaving 9-day old fruit or yoghurt on another's desk is just liable to be thanked. :D

Yes, I got that email too. Although I will be continuing to travel, as it's required operationally.

I get a bit squeamish about things like that, perhaps because I have so many allergies and had a bad experience with communal living a few years ago.

I usually shrug off office politics, but this only affects me, and so directly that it's hard to ignore as it is literally in my face like a colleague's armpit

Hey no worries Meems, you're quite right to be squeamish. Who would want to benchmark themselves by our office antics anyway, we're a bunch of horrible men! No way we'd be able to get away with this stuff if there was a lass working here and quite right too. :)

Someone on here or World Of ('Linda' - Ed)* recommended instant repair patches. They are marvellous and although they aren't supposed to last as long as a normal repair frankly I've replaced tubes before a repair has failed. Quicker than changing a tube as well. Only time I've gone for a tube replacement on the road rather than a repair was when it was wet and I couldn't get the thing to stick.

They are marvellous, buy a pack!

Oddly enough I had my first puncture in ages a few days ago. My tyres are rather cracked and shot to pieces and I had to fix some cracks with superglue. Marvellous tyres on-road but they take a pounding on any gravelly surface. They've also done about 5,000 miles.

I get 250 quid (gross) and a lunch with some other winners and senior management types at an indeterminate time in the future.

Better than a kick in the nuts.

My appraisal always says that.

Fortunately for me, I can achieve impressive results regardless.

I swear if I had a work ethic of any kind I'd rule the world.

I always had arguments at school with teachers. We were graded A-E for effort and 1-5 for attainment. I always aimed for an E1, on the basis that if I could achieve maximum results with minimum effort, I was clearly doing it properly. They could never quite seem to agree.

Did you ever manage it?

I did.

though I also managed to get an attainment grade higher than they were allowed to give, once. So perhaps I didn't.

Congrats. I was always an A1 until my GCSEs. I totally lost interest in school for various reasons by then, so became an E3 by the end.

I basically did the bare minimum of coursework, handing in first drafts. I aced all my exams though, so ended up with better grades than I had any right to have.

We were the same, but with letters for attainment and numbers for effort.

I got an A5 in physics after larking about, doing no homework and then acing the exam.

I think I just managed to do the work version of this too.
