No question this nutter should ever get out of prison, but the Americans make such a meal of sending him down.

He has done a deal with the prosecutors to avoid a death sentence. This deal is life plus 1000 years!

I mean what the hell is the point of sentence like that? Life with no chance of parole would do.

Now they are showing live court debate where each side can call witness prior to sentencing, it won’t make a shit of difference as he is getting life plus 1000 years!

I always wondered about "life plus..." sentences.

Do they really want his corpse stinking up the place for a millennium?

parole comes up way before the term runs out, because imprisonment is supposed to be rehabilitation not just punishment so you can be good and earn time off, that and life doesn't mean life so they to go 'AND ONE! AND ONE AND ONE!' to get round it. it's that or change the law.

I was under the impression that it was actually for life, but with parole available at the discretion of the judge (but set at a minimum of 20 years).

I believe it's until the death of the prisoner but at the time of sentencing the judge can set a minimum term which is when then can apply for parole. I can check with the lifer unit on Monday. We do have a lot of lifers, but due to our client group we have a lot of ISPP (indeterminate sentence for public protection) prisoners. They are more based on risk though.

Aye, parole usually comes up way before the 'life' period. Isn't the average 14 years, unless you get put on a tariff?

You have that couple who starved\beat that young boy to death who got life with a minimum 30 years.

Then that guy in Manchester who killed the police women got life with no chance of release.

I read that people who kill policemen and children (with a sexual motive) will get life and never get out.

That said there have been a few cases that have had the concept of life with no parole challenged by the Court of EU Inference, Jeremy Bamber and others won a review of their “life with no change of getting out” sentences

I believe that's the tariff.
