Chrome on iPad has been updated, it now has full screen mode switched on by default and you can't turn it off.
Well done google, now there is no way to navigate back and forward or reload without scrolling the page...

I've updated Chrome on my iPad and it's not doing this for me? How strange?

They've also very recently made an unutterable cunt of the Google Maps interface on Android and, I believe, iOS. To the extent that the way to access the 'save offline' functionality is probably the most terrible UI design I've seen in years; and bear in mind that this is after they rushed out a change to even make it as accessible as it is now. Someone over there seriously needs a good slap at the minute.

Scroll down and the header bar will scroll off the top of the screen.

They've also made a royal botch job of chrome on Win8. Everything is awfully blurred and it is unusable. And that's a chrome, not Win8 gripe.

Oh yeah... what an odd design choice? I've reported it on their feedback screen. If enough people do it, perhaps they'll change it back or add an easy option to turn it off?

That chrome feature is present on my nexus seven as well; it is shit.

It's the same on my Android phone but it reappears as soon as you scroll up, which is fine.

As soon as you scroll *down* surely?

I don't mind it on my android phone, as you have a back button you can use. On the ipad there is no other option than scrolling the window to get the navigation buttons to appear.

No, the menu bar reappears as soon as you scroll down, and disappears when you scroll up.

Fake edit: hah, no, I'm a twat! My brain was getting confused between the direction I was scrolling the content of the page and the direction my finger was physically moving on the touchscreen. Due to the afore-mentioned twattery.

Oh, so you don't have to go all the way to the top? That doesn't sound so bad.

Safari on iOS7 does something similar, and it's annoying. The back/forward buttons (and all others down at the bottom) disappear when you scroll, and although you can get them back by tapping in the corner of the screen, it's unintuitive.

It also no longer shows <title> elements in the browser chrome at the top, it just shows the URL. Pain in the arse.

Actually I'm on iOS 6.1.3 and it's just the top bar disappears. I've always wondered why sometimes it shoots to the top but most of the time I have to scroll all the way to the top to get the top bar back.

Ah, I am on a surface so default is 150%. However everything else seems to scale correctly.

Go to the URL chrome://flags and there's one to force hidpi mode on.

No matter. As I had no idea how to resolve it, I settled for IE10, and love it more than I ever did chrome.
