http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/07/03 ... our_brain/

I was reading this on The Register this morning. which seemed like a fucking awful idea and I had to check it wasn't April Fools Day.
However, that led me to looking at these

http://www.maxvirtual.com/

Fully wireless sound conducting baseball cap, it's the fucking future or something!
At £50 that is totally in my impulse shiny range, so I have ordered one.

Reviews seem fair, they say it is a little quiet to use and can't be compared to a good pair of headphones in terms of sound quality, but for exercise and commuting, they could be perfect. Plus having a phone conversation while wearing the hat will make sure I get a seat to myself.

I shall report back when it arrives.

Would that work with an iPod? My mum (no jokes, please) loves running but has massive problems with any sort of earphones: inner ear, outer ear, those shitty ones that clip around the ear. iPod's are bluetooth enabled are they?

Depends on the ipod, I think the latest touch and nano have bluetooth, I don't think the rest do.

I couldn't find any I liked for running until I tried these ones:

http://www.johnlewis.com/sennheiser-adi ... mcampid=73

Pretty much perfect and not at all dependent on head/ear shape for a good fit.

That sounds far too good to be true; I'm glad someone else is road testing it! Do let us know how well it works Trooper.

Thanks Mark. Time for Son-Of-The-Year to the rescue! Would've been nice to get some headphones from the future though. It'd blow her mind when the music is creeping through her skull.

Oh shit, hang on. It's not those at all.

It's these that I have:

http://www.pmctelecom.co.uk/shop/headph ... tAodvyEARA

But they're discontinued. The current equivalent seem to be these ones:

It's a bit rude wearing a hat indoors. That bloke should look ashamed.

What happens when a funeral car goes past?

If they were noise-cancelling (90% of why I wear headphones at work) I'd be in.

"Take your hat off"
"No"
"Why"
"Legal reasons"
"What legal reasons?"
"Murder"

If they were noise-cancelling you wouldn't be able to have that conversation.

Yes you would - noise-cancelling headphones don't make any difference to conversation at all (save the changes caused by having them cover your ears).

So, covering your ears makes no difference to your conversations?

I knew you were forthright, but...

Breaking news!

It's utter garbage :D

1) When running it is easily hearable by other people, in fact it is actually louder for other people than a pair of ipod earphones.
2) The sound quality is awful. Very tinny unless you force the pressure pads onto your temples with your hands. Not entirely comfortable that... ;)
3) At top volume the sound massively distorts.
4) At anything other than top volume it is basically inaudible, and even then it is only useable in a quiet room I suspect. It certainly won't be audible on a train.
5) The build quality is laughably bad.

Indeed! I was expecting a bit better than this though, the reviews make it seem half reasonable, not the utter crap it turned out to be.

It might be salvageable for jogging in a quiet place, i'll have to give it a go for certain, but commuting is a no for sure.

Well knock me down with a feather. Not only will you look incredibly rude wearing a hat indoors, they'll be sounds emanating from it the whole time.

If I want to use it when I'm running, I suspect it would work a lot better as a headband. The elastic would press it firmly to the temples so you get a better sound, and the band should muffle the external noise a lot better.

Time to get making, watch this space magic hat fans.

Quick get a patent on it, and register the headband as a logo and trademark it. You could call it the head-BAND!(c)

Just been for a run and it wasn't a total disaster. It still has the same flaws, but you can hear it and you don't have wire flapping around all over the place.
