From NeoGaf:

Quote:
On the new [dashboard] beta points are gone and everyone is pound value.

400 points (£3.40) games are now £4.49 - £1.09 / 32%Increase
800 points (£6.80) games are now £8.99 - £2.19 / 32% Increase
1200 points (£10.40) games are now £11.99 - £1.56 / 15% Increase
1600 points (£13.60) games are now at £14.99 - £1.39 / 10% Increase

And that's based on the dashboard rate (£17/2000 points). If you're buying points cards from the web for £15/2100 points, then the increase is even more. An 800 point game goes from £5.71 to £8.99, and a 1200 pointer from £8.57 to £11.99. A 1600 point game goes from £11.42 to £14.99.

Wankers.

Best spend your points soon, folks. At some point soon (August, I think), your points balance will be converted into money, and you'll lose quite a lot of value.

Another nail in the Xbox's coffin for me -- between Steam sales, PS+, and The Last Of Us I haven't spent a penny on Xbox games in 2013. And I'm even less inclined to do so now, barring cleaning out my points balance. Particularly as GTA V appears to have PS3 as the lead platform.

Microsoft have totally lost the plot.

Better grab those Halo maps with my balance. Won't be renewing Live come January either.

Have a SNES arriving soon so I'll be hooked on Starfox and Street Fighter 2. Microsoft can GTFF.

Bellends. I'll have to do some Forza DLC optimisation.

It'll be the first time I've turned the 360 on in months, and that was just to watch Netflix.

There on-demand game sale last week was pretty good though. Also didn't someone at the company say the points would be converted to the same value or even higher value when the switch comes around. Surely if you've got 800 points, that should be changed to whatever an 800 points game costs in pounds.

They have said that but it also comes back to 'do you trust them to do it'

The official statement on the matter says:

Quote:
To make this a seamless and positive experience for our customers, we have considered many factors to ensure that the amount deposited in your Microsoft Account will be of equal or greater marketplace value than your Microsoft Points.

Which doesn't inspire much confidence when really the only factor worth considering is the current actual exchange rate. If they were going to use that why not just come out and say it? They're going to do something else that will screw people, mark my words. The fact that any points they do convert then get an automatic fucking expiry date is sign enough of their intentions and just another reason MS can go fuck themselves.

Conversion rate of existing points is only one issue, of course. The ongoing cost of games once you've exhausted your existing points is another.

And then typing those thought into the internet? You should have a word with your fingers, that habit could get you into some serious trouble. :p

If you're going to carry on using your 360 for streaming media access then you don't have much choice I suppose. If you do want to avoid re-upping live then you'd need to find some other device to do media player duties; the most obvious alternative being either a PS3 or a full-blown PC/laptop of some kind.

And of course the above is true regardless of the changes MS are proposing which led to this thread being started; you'll be stuck paying for Gold somehow regardless of whether you're doing it in points or sterling.

I have 1400 on mine - the rumors at the moment are that 120points are being converted to about £1.02 so your 4000 would convert to around £34

Is this even legal? How can they sell something with no limit then put a limit on it?

I also don't understand the business reason for doing this. Moon points provide an up front purchase point that blurs the line between price and currency, this just shows up the cost for the very high cost it is. Unless they are concerned that they do not have enough credit card details on their books to keep project prism happy.

Which is more then I paid for them so I'm ok with that.

That link doesn't seem to go to the right story.

In any case, this is amazing. I honestly can't believe what's gone on over the past few weeks.

Brilliant. Thanks.

In fairness, they do sort of get around it by explaining what 'betas' are for.

You're not reading one link eh? From the FAQ:

Quote:
What will happen to Microsoft Points Cards?
Microsoft Points Cards will continue to be redeemable on your console and on Xbox.com throughout 2014 and for a limited time thereafter, but will be discontinued after the launch of Xbox Gift Cards this fall. Please note that any funds we deposit into your account at the time of the transition will expire one year from the deposit date. Xbox Gift Cards, which will be denominated in your local currency, will be available for purchase in retail shops and from online retailers.

Certainly not. That would require far too much time and effort.
