Both have started about the same time. I'm hearing similar reviews on both, bit five guys appears to be much pricier.

Both have major queues too I hear. I'll give it a few weeks I think and then try them both :)

Five Guys is just down the road from my office. The lunchtime queue on opening day was huge - probably nudging 100 people. I'm sure it'll calm down pretty soon. I can offer daily queue status reports!

Man, this place is getting absolutely savaged in reviews from what I've seen. Scored the lowest of all burgers tested in the Guardian today.

Indeed, but then snack shack was rated as awful too.

Having read the article in question the only thing I can say for sure is that's I'm fucking starving now.

And, to be fair, looked rubbish.

That better be a satirical comment Mali, otherwise I'll doubt everything you ever say and will have to stop wearing red shirts on dates.

"BURGER WITHOUT MEAT IN NOT TASTY SHOCKER!" I would eat Byron again and I think it's a touch unfair to only include a veg item.

No GBK - how the mighty have fallen?

What this article made me want is twofold: to get off my lazy arse and go to the acclaimed butcher in the village down the road to get some beef cuts to experiment* and 2) Figure out how to fucking make a decent bun. My bread always comes out too dense, and it's especially unsuited to a burger bun.

* Experimentation this year has been limited to buying the Tesco Finest "loads and loads of teeny but thick" burgers and squishing them thin.

GBK isn't brilliant for a basic burger. Some of the fancy-toppings-laden ones are alright but making it taste nice with five types of relish and a brioche bun is, well, cheating.

I've got to drive down to Chippenham at the weekend to help the missus pick up a load of stuff from her nan's. Courtesy of this thread, I've requested, nay demanded, that my services be repaid by a burger in the surprisingly excellent Shoestrings burger bar there. That, or Schwartz Bros in Bath.

The weekend can't come quick enough, to be frank.

I read that article at 9:30 this morning, I almost gave up work to go and get one of those foie gras ones! *drool* Instead I had an undercooked jacket potato and cheese.

GBK don't sell burgers anymore. They sell a pint of sauce and topping with a burger side to dip.

I could, however, spend the rest of my life just living on their shoestring fries and bacon aioli.

I could tolerate the 'we don't give a flying fuck about actually selling you a burger'. Then the garlic mayo turned white and had an unsatisfactory percentage of mayo in it. So I voted with my feet.

My colleagues went to Five Guys and Shake Shack at the weekend, both agreed that Shake Shack was better.

Patty and bun in London is The best burger I've ever had.
