My wife gave birth to a perfect 6lb 7oz boy at 9.21 this morning. We have called him Noel.

I could never really be arsed with other people’s babies, they are nice but boring, not so with you own, he is a little belter.

My wife was a fucking hero, she did it all (21 hours) with controlled breathing and gas and air. He was 14 days over so it was inducement all the way which is not the best thing always, but she did it so well.

Also the staff are just unbelievable they just know their job as individuals and as a team and work so well, some of them do 15 hours shifts, where they have to be alert and accountable for human life all the time. Fucking outstanding, whatever is wrong with the NHS it’s not the people on the ground

So 36 hours no sleep, bed? Fuck that home alone some beers and TV with a pass out on the sofa of 9pm at the latest

And don't worry about taking pictures too early, I have pics of both of mine when they were seconds old. Fresh out of the pod.

They're pretty gruesome.

I too have pictures from the first minutes. It's all part of the process these days isn't it?

The best part of the whole birth for me was when I was handed BabyVision and then led to a room while my wife was sorted out. It was just me and my daughter alone for a few minutes but it felt like hours. It was brilliant and I'm sure other dads will agree, a turning point in a mans life.

I took pics an videos on my phone. Then I had a go at holding the baby while they sewed up the wife. It were weird, but mostly it was a feeling of relief that everything went okay!

Congrats asfish. Welcome to the next level!

I asked the doctor to "put an extra couple of stitches in, she's not getting any younger".

No-one laughed.

James Corden said it best: "it's like watching your local burn down. You know they'll rebuild it, but it'll never be the same"

Congrats! Get used to the lack of sleep. The next 3 months will be a killer, although it should get better with time. ;)

I think they get it with every birth tbh. I must have said it fifty times. No one would believe me. (and just in case she's reading  )

If she's had fifty babies, I think it's fair to expect that you'll need to pick a side to rub on.

First day at home he was great, tonight I had to walk him around the house for 2 hours (just finished) then he wanted more boob.

This afternoon I was in bed on my back and he was asleep on top of me, one of the nicest experiances I've ever had

I have a month off paid now (2 weeks holiday and 2 weeks man leave) so don't give a shit about sleep, will do it when I can.

Just want the best for my son, so you do what you need to do.

On the topic of birth I stayed away from the bussiness end the whole time :DD

He was a week old yesterday, we have had 2 panics already. Last week he just kept going nuts so we called the midwife and she suggested a dummy to keep him happy. That worked and he went back to his good baby mode (eat, sleep, eat).

Then yesterday he went nuts again crying all the time which was out of character so this time to A&E. Turned out he was just hot as at least Sunday in my neck of the woods was a very nice day, we don’t really open many windows in our house!!

Windows are now opened first thing on a nice day to let the cooler air into the house.

You also have the battle of well-meaning relatives, who at best give you advice that you can find on the internet, the current one is wind is the problem for everything

Still off to get him all registered today as he needs a passport!! We are attending the sister in laws wedding in Dublin sometime in September.

I know it's a stressful time as you never know what's normal, and what to do for the best.

However, "crying all the time which was out of character" sounds completely normal for a baby to me.

Fuck me 3 months in.. :blown:

Some parts of this have been wonderful, he started to smile at around 6 weeks, when I get home he smiles as me with such a cheeky gin. I can’t wait to get back to get my smile fix each weekday.
Other not so good stuff, acid reflux, which was fixed so he fed more so then it was (and still is) trapped farts. He goes nuts for most of the day, then sleeps ok at night which is a blessing.

Not easy at all though , my wife is been driven to the edge by him, she blames herself and compares him with other peoples babies (who never tell you bad things) and stuff like “he should be sleeping 14 hours a day” she reads on the internet.

Had to make some changes to working hours and have a home working day which thankfully my firm will support as I was a bit concerned by how stressed she was.

The smiles and the time when he is happy still make all the meltdowns and other madness worth it though!

**BUMP**

He is a year old on the 23rd of June, the time has flown by.

Looking back he has not been an easy baby, he had Acid reflux for the first 3 months so we could hardly put him down as swaddling in a sling was the only position he was happy in.

Then he put little or no weight on for the next 2 months, so off to a specialist who advised us to give him formula as well as breast milk.

Once we got over that at around 7 months we had 4 months of him waking up 3-5 times a night with wind and what was later found to be constipation. I all we had him at 3 specialists.

Its been very hard on my wife, also found that it pushes the "or worse" part of your wedding vows!

Now though he mostly goes through the night with the odd bad night once every few weeks.

For me personally whilst the experience to date has been tough, its been so much more than I thought it would be. I always viewed (other peoples) babies as a bit boring and figured that it got fun when they were 2 or so.

That's not the case with your own, aside from my wife he is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Every day now he changes and does different and new things.

Right now he is going through a phase where I'm the best thing since sliced bread, he just wants me to carry him around all the time and take him to objects around the house. Last night he was sat on the floor in his room and I was crawling on all fours towards him making a noise like a dog, he was laughing his head off and squealing with excitement. Just brilliant :DD
