OK chums, here's the resulting Barbarian "poster"

Ignore the diagonal lines. That's my window blind.

As you can see, it's just a tad dark and mushy.

That Barbarian poster doesn't look that bad from the picture. Obviously, I can't make out the fine detail but I think it could be the best you'd do with it judging by the source material.

I might have another play with it. If I can get a solution that works best than everyone here who wants one will be able to download it and send it to the same print company. It's quite cheap to get printed!

Ever wondered if the reported landfill where Atari dumped large numbers of ET carts was real ?

A film studio has permission to excavate the site

As mentioned on the Arstenica page I doubt they will find 'complete cartridges' but may find shells or other bits of Atari paraphernalia which would still be interesting

Were 2600 carts like GX4000 carts in that the ROM chips were actually standard EPROMS that could easily be erased and reused? If so I'd imagine that they won't find any carts with actual chips in them. Would have been recycled.

That's basically what one ex-Atari person said in the interview , however the thoughts are that given the glut of cartridges produced they could well have dumped either empty shells or boxes / manuals / other bits that were created specifically for that game and that would have been harder to re-use.

That piece on Gamesmaster was a wonderful piece of nostalgia. I can remember watching the first series in my parents' bedroom where the second and smaller telly was kept (we were rightly forbidden TVs in our rooms as kids). Never realised until today just how full of filth that show was. I loved it, but still think Bad Influence! was the only TV show to ever take computing seriously.

THIS!

Although looking back I hated their love of the BBC branded Acorn machines.

It is remarkably odd that a Tory lead government encouraged the BBC to endorse a commercial product and distort the market.

MicroLive was just as sniffy about games as it was about anything non Acorn as well.

HATED the way it was all consoles consoles consoles at a time when most people had computers. There were some concessions to the Amiga and ST but none to the 8 bits at all.

Diamond was insufferable, most of the kids were insufferable and although I did watch I wasn't that keen on it. Just felt like the entire thing was made by smug bastards, exploiting a trend and who didn't have to actually pay for the games. Turned out I was right.

If my nostalgia filter isn't too effective, I remember at the age never understanding why anyone would want a console. Even got a letter in the 'Early Times' about it, if I recall correctly.

I was a bit of a pretentious dick when I was younger.

You are kind of right. Why wouldn't any right minded kid not want a computer with lots of peripherals and loads of cheap games?

My Amstrad had lots of cool stuff hanging off of EVERY port it had! Those not familier with the CPC won't realise that it had 3 expansion ports on the back. A parallel port, a general expansion port and a disc drive port, as well as sockets for joystick, tape recorder (664 and 6128) and a 3.5mm jack for stereo sound. We even had a ROM box which had the Protext Word Processor in it and even a spell checker!

Let alone the fact that games were so cheap that you could have hundreds. Yes alot of it was dross but you also had great stuff. Stuff that my ST and Amiga owner friends actually liked playing. They had all their flash games but they didn't have stuff like 180

When I got my Amiga I realised the potential was even greater! First birthday after I got it I asked for a sound sampler and a scanner (a 256 shades of grey hand scanner). The following year I got a Vidi 12 for capturing stills from video. It was all fascinating and I used the software extensively.

To only have a console with just a few games seemed a remarkably poor choice.

Bloody hell. The first five minutes of the BBC 10 o'clock news has been given over to the fact that Mrs Windsor attended a ceremony at Westminster Abbey to celebrate 60 years since the coronation. What is this? 1950?

Bollocks, we've left it so late booking a hotel room in Manchester later in the month for the Die Antwoord gig that the prices are ridiculous and we can only justify staying for one night rather than all weekend. This is made worse by the fact that we booked the return train tickets first before realising how stupid the hotel prices were so we've had to book a second train ticket back home as we can't change the original tickets. What fucking twats we are; also shame we can't spend a full weekend in Manchester. :(

I went to Bad Influence, and got saddled with Challenger Tank on the Watara Supervision.

Andy Crane asked me whether it was good. Nearly killed him. I was 12.

It's £money. Our costs for having to stay where we are for longer due to the nisistence on the later date. Wonderfully reasonable amount.

No, they are doing the delaying, which kicks us over into having to pay rent past our notice period and the reasonable date we've offered up and there are cvarious other reasons we want to move sooner rather than mid July.

We're all set to go and could compelte tomorrow if they want to. I suspect it is going to go tits up, mind.

Video proof or it didn't happen.

I think Violet Berlin is now married to TV's Gaz Top.
