Oh, before I forget people who likes Llamasoft's GoatUp and 8-bit platform game sin general will really like the sequel, due for release in the very near future. It has a FULL LEVEL EDITOR and, I believe, some means of sharing said levels. He might sell more copies calling it 8-bit platformer construction kit but at least the motto is "Everybody can be Matthew Smith".

Those who have played it are frothing at the gash over it. I am quite excited myself. Should cost a little more than 'normal' though.

Right, it's off to Apple... game will be two quid fifty thus allowing Minter to heat his house.

In the 80s Jeff used to do a blog sort of thing, distributed as a newsletter and you'd get one about whatever new game was out. Nowadays, it's just blogs like normal. The full deal: http://minotaurproject.co.uk/blog/?p=356

Also, I haven't played a Minter game I've actually liked since Tempest on the Jaguar. I've been significantly unimpressed with the iPhone output (well, the ones I've played).

Close, I beat you by a tiny bit, but that was it. Nobody else posted a better score.

Tempest on the Jaguar, you say?

Well now, a follow up to that would be interesting, wouldn't it? Don't hold your breath, but don't write it off either.

If you've not played Gridrunner on the iStuff, give the free version a try - it's got two different control modes, has both the Vic and C64 version included and you can upgrade to the full version in-app (buying the paid version doesn't get you 1:1 controls). If you like the pure shooting action, that's your best bet, followed by Super Ox Wars.

My personal favourites are Solar Minotaur rescue Frenzy (though I get to play that on PC because I'm special) and Caverns of Minos, because I can make good progress in it. Not really played much Minotron 2112 and neither Deflex nor Goatup are my preferred types of game. 5-A-Day I view more as an experience than a competitive game.

Apple couldn't figure out how to work it so they bunced it this evening, but Yak got back to them in Comic Sans and now it's propogating to the stores: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/goatup-2/id604025013

You'll probably really want to get this, even if the first Goatup failed to grab you. Level editors. Level editors.

Like creep weird games to creepy weird you out? Like stories about stuff? Like to get scared? Like the odd puzzle or three?

Like some of the best production I've come across in the whole of the iTunes AppStore boxymagig?

YEAR WALK

It's featured in this month's GamesTM. It got a 7. Well, the puzzle are a bit abstract sometimes. Still, it's freaking lush I tells ya. Two fiddy pounds is a bit steep but decent freaky weird creepy unsettling shit is unfortunately few and far between.

Get your headphones on. Turn the lights off. Have a wank.

No, hang on, play this instead. I like it.

So I got to the ghost babies and into the cave thing but then it became far too abstract for my liking and I had to resort to a bloody walk through. What a nob I feel. But then again, it was cheesing me off a tad by being too bloody abstract or maybe I was just being impatient. Anyway, I cheated twice. Yes, yes, I'm a nob.

Anyway, if you take out 50% of the puzzels, it's rather lovely and freaky and shit.

Then you finish the game (weird ending by the way enough to keep your attention for the following) and are directed to download a companion App with clues to the true ending.

I'll give it a shot. The ending was enough to peak my interest.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
You killed her.

Hmm, so you start off talking to a girl who loves you but she, appears to me, to be bequeathed to another man. She has to tell him whether she wants to marry him tomorrow.

You set off for a Year Walk which is, apparently, how you get a glimpse into the future, after a series of trials.

You look into the future and the girl is dead. She says she doesn't love you anymore, she's happy with the man she's with and you stabbed her in a fit of rage.

It seems that this then happens and you are put to death by the state. You leave a note saying you wished you'd killed yourself as you couldn't change the future.

That's the end.

Could have been better but it was interesting for a couple of quid.

I'm taking a punt on all the iPhone games recommended in GamesTM.

I've downloaderized BADLANDS

It's a mix of LIMBO, running-forward-and-jumping-man games, Locorocco and Shadow of the Beast.

It looks the bizness, it sounds lovely with mah super sexy earPods jammed into the holes in my head and plays very nicely so far. It got an 8 in GamesTM. I gotta say though, the production is top notch. Mwah, to the chef.

Hang on, two fiddy? I suppose you get what you pay for though. It's bootiful.

There's none of that shit, thankfully.

There's a (up to) four player multiplayer (hence the 'multi') on a single screen. No ones played it with me though... :(

I've played the multiplayer with 3 others at work.

It's acebest as all four of your little spazzy fat birds bash against each other competing to stay on the screen in a Micro Machines-esq fashion.

Much fun was had - although one of them had fat fingers obscuring a quadrant of the screen. I bet the iPad version is loads ace.

Ok, so words still not enough, pictures ain't doing it for ya, a yabbadabba do trailer ain't spurred you on...

... what about a video of ME (and my mate Stu) playing the multiplayer!? Yes, that's right, it lets up upload videos and shit. EXCITEMENT! Watch with your face holes for 20 seconds as I turn into fat blue thing and squish my opponent into the ceiling purely by accident.

Quick update from people at work who purchased this for actual money:

"My lad reckons it's the best iPhone game he's played"

"Missus wouldn't give my phone back. Stupid game."

"I've got an Android phone and can't download it. Stupid android shit"

Actual quotes there, people.

I've finished Badland!

40 levels and 39 of them are ace. The last one is, sadly, a Rick Dangerous inspired level. I mean seriously, you do so well for 39 levels and the very last one is this turgid nonsense? What a shame. But if 39 levels are ace and 1 is the complete opposite I'm going to, hmmm, what abstract number can I give to show people how ace it is when pictures and moving pictures can't convince them...

I'm going to rate this:

PINEAPPLE out of TWO EMPTY CANS OF BEANS

More hot multiplayer gaming action. Me vs. Bloke at Work. It's Red vs. Blue all over again but with little tiny blobs and more exciting. I'm Red (actually it's purple) and Bloke at Work is Blue.

It pauses for a second or so near the end - ignore that - and watch to the thrilling conclusion.

Fack it. I wanted it so I gots it.

DUNGEON MASTERS.

It's now available on iphone! Yippie! It could also be my most lasting memory of Amiga gaming and, boy, did I enjoy some of these dungeon crawlers. Captive, Black Gate, Knightmare, Dungeon Master. Er... I think they were the only ones I liked but, boy-o boy, they were the greatest ever made.

Ishtar was shit won'it? So was Eye of the Beholder an' all.

Anyway, I digress.

DUNGEON MASTERS!

It's now on the iPhone after being iFad only. And guess what - It's optimised for iPhone 5! Optimised, baby. All, like, big-o vision. Score!

...and I've got an iPhone 4S. Gah.

I got an iPhone 5 last week and decided I should get back into iPhone gaming. So I had a wee read of this thread, and this post drew my attention (well, this post and the subsequent posts :P). So I downloaded it and had a wee go just now. It's amazing! First time I ever bothered following the advice and wearing headphones and its totally worth it. Beautiful, sweet lovely little game. My new fave :)

Badland gets badder. No, gooder. With 10 mo' levels! Free! It's like DLC but worthwhile. Funny init that a cheapo 3 quid game doesn't feel the need to rip everyone off and just adds content because it loves us.

The lack of variation did the game no favours for me. I played it several times last night but seemed to play the same 4 games over and over again.

It's nice, but could do with more variety for me.

Scurvy Scallywags is pretty good.

By Ron Gilbert off of Monkey Island, it's a quest/match 3 game. You build up your pirate's stats with each level, and when you die you start again keeping all your stats.

A bit different in that the pieces don't fall downwards, they fall in from the direction you swipe, which takes a bit of getting used to before you can start to navigate the board. Your pirate is a piece on the board, and he has to do all the regular match 3 stuff as well as try to move towards collectible pieces and avoid/fight monsters when you're strong enough.

It was free, might still be.

Yeah, I haven't dismissed it out of hand. I've just spent £1.99 on Home though (which is excellent, I'm just about to do a 2nd playthrough).

I'd rather spend £2-5 on a game and it be decent, rather than the freemium/69p shovelware that the store is blighted with in the main.

Still worth it then. I've sunk hours into it so far.

This doesn't have app-addons thank goodness. The game is the game.

Yes, I always check the 'top in-app purchases' before downloading a game these days. If it has stars or coins at all, I immediately dismiss it.
