Several months on, and I got around to watching this last night.

It was loads better than I was expecting, and a decent story, though by no means a classic.

Did we all see the new Man of Steel trailer yet?

Looks fantastic. Micheal Shannon is the finest actor working today, I cannot wait to see his General Zod.

Avoid the new Nerd Trek Into Dorkness trailer if you don't want a pretty major spoiler revealed mid-way through. >:(

It did but was recalled pretty quickly as they'd mistakenly used a German print for the UK pressings. It was later reissued using the censored print. The original release can be found in CeX on occasion and while it is showing them as available online, you really need to check the cases and discs in store.

The cover will look like this: Image

Note the old style BBFC certification, red banner and PlayStation 2 compatability logo. The re-release does not have these. If buying in CeX, you'll need to make sure the disc also has the old BBFC certification.

Iron Man 3 - The worst movie ever to be called Iron Man 3. But obviously it's also the best as there's only one Iron Man 3. It satisfied me and did pretty much everything you expect. Good drama, action and humour. What more could you want?

Movie 43 was surprisingly entertaining for at least 60% of its run time. Didn't it get panned by the critics though? I can't remember reading anything about it. Maybe I was just drunk enough to enjoy it. Hugh Jackman's balls were glorious though.

Iron Man 3 is glorious. Sir Ben Kingsley's performance is fantastic through and through - I didn't see it coming.

In fact, good performances from everyone all-round, really. It's probably the first decent "superhero comedy" I've seen - doesn't take itself too seriously, but isn't too light-hearted either.

It did get panned. It was largely described as the worst film in cinematic history.

I think we discussed it here.

I find it fascinating. I really want to see how such a cast can be involved in something so allegedly dire.

That it is. Whether its any good or not depends on whether you answer the following question in the affirmative:

Have you ever laughed whilst watching a Wayans Brothers film?

I'd not read or heard anything about it but I didn't find it as half as objectionable as the reviews I've skimmed today. It's nowt special but it certainly better than, say, The Last Stand (the Arnie film) which I'd watched the same day. What utter dogshit that was.

I watched The Goonies yesterday. Couldn't understand a word of it, every line is shouted at full volume by the kids, at the same time as another kid is shouting something else.
I didn't notice this when I was a child, and could understand it perfectly.

"Storage 24" - low budget British scifi / horror from last year, on Sky at the moment.

Basically, an Alien rip-off, set in a self-storage building in London rather than a spaceship. Sounds shit. The internet says it's shit.
I quite liked it! Managed to keep the tension up throughout, quite humorous, refreshingly free from annoying hollywood movie logic and tropes.

The Alien-inspired score isn't bad either, although there's a slight glitch in the audio on the SD Sky on demand version.

Certainly worth a watch anyway.

My wife watched this the other day, she really enjoyed it, and I'd seen it on demand, and it's sitting on the planner now for me to watch at my leisure (after Dexter, Game of thrones, and Banshee tonight probably)

Watched and enjoyed Iron Man 3 the other day (in 3d no less) A few really good scenes in there. I enjoyed Iron man and Iron man 2 when I first saw them, but on rewatching I thought they were not as good as some of the more recent Marvel films. I think IM3 is up with Thor and Captain America, but not quite as good as Avengers. I was also reminded a bit of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang a few times (could be because I watched it recently, but I think it was intentional).

Whilst at the cinema I saw the trailer for The Man of Steel, which looks really quite good. However, I thought I'd look it up on wikipedia (see when it comes out etc) and I read this: (not a plot spoiler at all, but if you don't want to know anything AT ALL about the film don't read it, but really it's not a spoiler)

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Quote:
To completely distinguish Man of Steel from the previous films, the iconic "Superman March" by John Williams will not be heard

What the fuck? Can you imagine Bond, Star Trek or any other long running film series, even ones which have been rebooted, not at least paying homage to something as iconic as that? It strikes me as madness! Ah well...

I also liked the look of that film with Will Smith and his son crashing in a space ship on to a wild planet. That looks good.

What an utter shit fest. The main problem with it is that the main character is an unlikeable, smug twit. Not sure if this from the books or just Tom Cruise's interpretation. Was a bit WTF? when Werner Herzog suddenly appeared, though.

Iron Man 3 is excellent. Totally superb performance from Ben Kingsley.

Malc - you're totally wrong about Iron Man 1 & 2, just so you know. Captain America better than the first Iron Man? You're brainwronged.

On first viewing I would probably agree, but on subsequent viewings I think Captain America is the better film (I would much rather watch that again now, that Iron Man 1 or 2)

Is the concensus that Iron Man 3 is better than the second one was? 'Cos as much as I loved the first Iron Man, the only thing I remember about the sequel is Scarlett Johansson with red hair and black leather. Which, to be fair, was easily worth the price of admission.

I liked IM3 but didn't love it - however, it was certainly a vast improvement on IM2, but not nearly as good as IM1.

He was actually alright in The Guard, although that entire film was disappointingly boring after the bumming it got on here. He does a certain sort of put-upon world-weariness pretty well which makes him a decent straight man to Downey Jr's character in the Iron Man films but he's far from the best part of the films and there are probably loads of other people who could've been better in the role.
