I've found a mod for XWing Alliance that lets me play it on the Windows 7 laptop at home. It's as good as I remember it being.

On the downside, I need to buy a new joystick.

Mr TheVision - a lovely man has produced a load of mods for the Xwing/Tie series so the old installers will work on a 64 bit system, here:

http://www.markusegger.at/Software/Games/Default.aspx

(I think that's the link I used at home - work is blocking it so I can't check)

It's a bit of a faff (you have to make a new Xwing CD), but well worth it.

My whole brain feels like white noise today. Noise with mass. I've lost my wallet, snapped my shoelaces (nochmal) and I've been told I won't need to attened an assessment centre for an thingy as I did one last week, so they will take the results from that. Which i assume will be the whole thing as word on the street is that everyone who applied for the (second, in my case) job that never was has applied for this one.

EDIT: And my fucking phone has updated itself so I can't use it now as everything is somewhere else and it keeps vomiting up instructions. And it turned the data on, so I'll get charged a fortune from that. Fuckssake.

Tenant has given notice today. Arse.
Estate agent thinks I might be out of negative equity, I'll believe that when I see it, but worth a go at selling I suppose.

Did a shoot at a big facility there once. Not uncommon for foreign visitors to fly into Newcastle Upon Tyne by mistake despite every effort to advise them not to apparently.

Most terrifying law firm ever.

Quote:
I have enjoyed a portfolio career, in New Zealand and overseas, managing the conduct and aftermath of relationships between people. The truth is that people aren't nice to each other a lot of the time and that causes tension and problems.

People argue about relationships and money, they steal each others' property, employers hire people they shouldn't and then fire them the wrong way. Sometimes people even go so far as to hurt and kill each other or themselves.

I believe strongly that the right intervention can provide a solution to any problem. Often that solution is for me to present as your lawyer after things have gone wrong and to fix the problem for you as best as it can be done. On rare occasions I can intervene to prevent a potential problem from occurring or stop an existing situation from worsening to your detriment.

Yes, I'm a lawyer, a private investigator and a security consultant but none of these titles alone really defines exactly what it is that I bring to criminal and employment litigation or private investigations. Finding the solution to your particular problem might call on aspects from all of my skillsets, and that's why I prefer to think of myself simply as a problem solver.

So, if you think you need my expertise, contact me for a confidential assessment of your needs

I think that really should have ended with "If you have a problem, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire Mr Leith".

Got a parking ticket at my own flat, which was nice. I'll ignore it and it will go away.
I also got a letter from my old insurers saying I need to either send them the certificate back for my old policy that I'm not renewing with them, or sign an enclosed letter and send it back to them saying I have lost it. I'll ignore that and that will go away too. At least give me a prepaid return envelope if you want me to do your admin for you.

heh, I had three and a half years of (Higher education - Ed) on my first (Missionary expedition to the North). Good little gig, but, ultimately, not terribly productive.

I went for an interview in Sheffield, and stayed in a room that quite clearly used to be twice the size. I knew this because the sink was only half in my room. One tap, half a plughole, wall down the middle.

Simon Jenkins misses the point by a country mile here. Perverting the course of justice should, and is, be treated very seriously. As seriously as nobbling juries, or witness tampering. Even though, as he says, the crime was a "minor one", it becomes immaterial what the original offence was when you try and pervert the couse of justice. I think that is what makes it even ridiculous, 8 months each for a driving ban and a few months of sackcloth and ashes. And the fact that Huhne denied, and denied, and denied it only to change his plea right at the last when the writing was on the wall for him. That is why we are taking pleasure in it. He thought he could get away with it. he tried to wriggle adn squirm and bring to bear the full brunt of his wealth and influence to attempt an escape. And it didn't work. And then the whole house of cards fell down. Huhnes is awally, and Pryce is, too. This is why it is funny, that the whole scheme fell to peices so publicly.

Hell yes. Regardless of how trivial the original offence was, it is right that the courts come down heavily on those who commit perjury, and even more so for a public figure to be even more harshly treated than an ordinary citizen.

And, yes, it was just about the offence, not Mr Hune's record in government that was on trial. Silly of Jenkins to even bring that up.

Indeed. The argument for not sending Pryce to the slammer seems to be "She's actually quite nice, once you know her". 8 months, I thought, was a little lenient.

Unrelatedly, I heard on PM yesterday that in settlement for the McAlpine incident, George monbiot will do three eyars charity work.

Completely agree, but in the interests of parity they should do the same for people who lie to HMRC.

And - 8 months, of which they'll serve 2.

Completely agree, but in the interests of parity they should do the same for people who lie to HMRC.

How big a lie are we talking about here?

Royal corpse news now!

Another debate on what to do with Richard III.

Hugh Bayley MP (York Central) wrote:
I mentioned that public opinion is split, with thousands of people supporting Leicester, and three times as many supporting burial in York. I have received many letters and e-mails from members of the public supporting burial in York. Most are thoughtful, well argued and based on scientific facts, but some are, frankly, inflammatory. I talked to the Dean of York yesterday, and some of the letters she has received at the minster are so extreme that she has referred the correspondence to the police

The dean's been getting hate mail on this issue? Oh dear.
