So, Christmas this year (ish), Google are going to release Glass.

I'm fairly sure I'd sell the Grimlet to get a set.

Here's what Google will tell you about it, and here is what The Verge said when they had a go.

That woman's hair on The Verge article is lovely, too.

I read that verge article a while back and it seems interesting. Needs a couple of points sorted out before i'm clamouring for one though.

1) Better way of interacting with it other than voice.
2) Incorporated into my normal glasses.

You can interact with it by touching the arms - tap to select, swipe down to go back, swipe along the arm for options.

Obviously that won't help you with a Google Search but it's just a matter of time before an heads-up keyboard appears and you start prodding the air like a nutter.

So I never have to be a twat and say "ok glass" at all? That's a bit more appealing.

I do find it mildy strange that the ultimate in personal technology, has as its main interface, the least personal interaction point :)

I wouldn't mind talking to it. It took me a while to get used to talking to my Xbox with Kinect, but it's kind of cool once you get into it..

but then again, that is in the privacy of my own home.

I'm sure that given the excitement it must be a failure of imagination on my part but I find myself unable to get excited about or see endless possibilities abounding from being able to read stuff from a tiny screen while walking along and having a crappy little camera on my face.

I've always wanted a HUD. That's the main reason I want a corvette. I just want this to give me a HUD.

A HUD didn't do Robocop any harm, did it?

Indeed.

Plus the whole "wow! look at that once in a lifetime thing that I want to take a photo off to show the world! "Ok, glass. <pause> Take a... Oh, I missed it""

Plus, Siri, look how often everyone uses that.

At least a Corvette would make you look like slightly less of a twat. It's Bluetooth headsets all over again. Who the fuck wears those out in public? Just the sort of weirdos who have their phones in little belt holsters, that's who.

She wouldn't, though. I'd just end up with pictures of the cats floating around the room.

A thought occurs re: voice activation. If these get really popular, surely shouting "OKAY GLASS - GOOGLE GOATSE" in a crowded place would be the best trolling ever?

When I get a text message, my phone will read it out.. It will say "Message received from Mrs Vision. You can say read it, or ignore"

If I'm in the same room as my friends, it only takes one of them to shout "Read it" and then my phone reads it out... Great!

This. Also a feature that told you which side the doors will open at the next stop, so you can be ready on the right side or get out of the way of those wishing to leave.

So, you can't sell your Google Glass thingy if you don't like it, you can only give it away, otherwise Google will nuke it from orbit.
Crazy.

I did like this comment though
"Video conferencing?
What the hell are people video conferencing a Google Glass wearer going to see? An eyeball? It'll be like conferencing Sauron!"

Pleasingly, there is a protest group called "Stop the cyborgs", whereas I, for one, welcome our robotically abled overlords.

Google glass would be ace as I could wear them when riding my bike and it could tell me where I should be going, and video any interesting things I see. Like the alapaca in a field the other day. or some sheep. Or the man with SKY written across his arse. I want a pair, and I want a pair soonest! And it could overlay a translation of NorthernSpeak for me. And tell me if the ehad on my beer is too big. Or tell me about the beers as I look at the pumps. And food, it could tell me if I will like the food.

So, it should be mentioned that this is now out in the UK under a "beta" flag, but a Google insider* tells me that's more about social acceptability than it is hardware or software.

Um... It's £1,000.

The main problem is that it still looks fucking ridiculous, until they fix that then it'll never catch on.

To get and idea of how it feels to wear these just get any regular pair of glasses, sellotape an amusing picture of a cat to the inside of one of the lenses and write "TWAT" on you forehead with a permanent marker.

If you need regular glasses to see, you can get Glass added onto them.

And then you have to charge them during the day, presumably requiring you to take them off.

Um.

I can't see them getting away with that long term in the EU, In Belgium they won't even allow mobiles with a contact everyone has to pay £500 for an IPhone.

I bet if these were Microsoft glasses and been sold with the same restrictions the EU you would have already issued telephone number fines!

Also love all the companies making bullshit statements about their "policy" for these, Starbucks saying they would ask people not to film staff with them, its not like you can't do that with pretty much any mobile these days!

That was over a year ago - they've already dropped the restrictions* for the non-prototype models to my understanding.

Quite a few on Ebay now, there are also some Hong Kong knock offs for around £60 which I might get to try the concept out
