Games Workshop are being cunts again? What a surprise? Asserting that you have a trademark on a term almost as old as science fiction?

Fuck you, Games Workshop.

If you don't move to protect a trade mark, you might lose it so it makes comemrcial sense to aggressively attack this sort of thing.

Except: they don't have a trademark for fiction. They also would have great difficulty registering a trademark. Due to all the millions of uses of 'space marine' in science fiction. They are just throwing their weight around. Because they're cunts.

They can be a right clump of bastards, it has to be said. I remember the hoo-hah about them forcing their trade customers into agreements not to sell on eBay and thinking they were cunts then. Beautiful, sexy cunts.

Treat 'em mean to keep 'em keen.

I only buy them second hand so Apple don't see a penny anyway.

They've just flobbed out this gop.

Quote:
Games Workshop owns and protects many valuable trademarks in a number of territories and classes across the world. For example, 'Warhammer' and 'Space Marine' are registered trademarks in a number of classes and territories. In some other territories and classes they are unregistered trademarks protected by commercial use. Whenever we are informed of, or otherwise discover, a commercially available product whose title is or uses a Games Workshop trademark without our consent, we have no choice but to take reasonable action. We would be failing in our duty to our shareholders if we did not protect our property.

To be clear, Games Workshop has never claimed to own words or phrases such as 'warhammer' or 'space marine' as regards their general use in everyday life, for example within a body of prose. By illustration, although Games Workshop clearly owns many registered trademarks for the Warhammer brand, we do not claim to own the word 'warhammer' in common use as a hand weapon.

Trademarks as opposed to use of a word in prose or everyday language are two very different things. Games Workshop is always vigilant in protecting the former, but never makes any claim to owning the latter.

Would anyone be interested in buying my Dark Vengeance box off me? I've literally opened it up and looked at all the sprues.

Just can't see me having time to paint it all, I'm stacked out with stuff that I want to build/paint already.

£45 delivered (UK), if no one bites this week it's getting chucked on eBay.

*slow clap* Oh well done Forgeworld. They're ticketing the annual Forgeworld open day now. £7.50 just to get in and buy their ltd edition open day models. They obviously weren't making enough money from the hundreds of people who turn up every year. So fucking annoyed at that.

Seven new videogame deals signed, more to come.

Quote:
Slitherine which has penned an agreement to produce a strategy game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, development of which is already underway.

Quote:
It also has new titles coming from studios Rodeo and Full Control, and Sega studio Creative Assembly became another licensee late last year.

Cyanide is working on another Blood Bowl game, and Nomad Games has signed up to produce a game based on Talisman.

Most of those partners - save for save for Danish Full Control and French Cyanide - are, like the miniatures and RPG specialist, based in the UK.

But the company now wants even more licensees in games and is now willing to dig into its vast history of boardgames and strategy creations and use them on digital platforms.

It also means the Games Workshop brands will be available in a mix of video games business models.

A statement from the firm sent to MCV said: "Games Workshop has an enormous library of exciting IP. A new world of gaming is opening up and we are happy to talk with anyone with a sound business model and a good idea. The good idea is pretty important."

But the firm said it's now being more flexible: "The days of monolithic Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 licenses on all platforms are behind us.

Wanted:
a) Epic RPS where I can field titans.
b) Elite like game where I can play as a Rogue Trader
c) Hive-building sim city alike.

I wonder if it'll be me or you that bumps this thread onto the 100th page?

Maybe the ruinous powers will reverse the flow of time though, or give us skill.

Read a couple of the short stories from Ignorant Armies last night, I half remembered the one with the sexy gardener and the boy who sucked the cock flower and was found dead in a thorny bush. Lovely stuff.
