Hello,
I need to move the pathetic amount of stuff that I own from it's current resting place (a few different houses in Manchester) to Watford. Please advise me on Solutions. Is there a Man&Van Moving Solutions Ltd. that you have used before and will help me for CHEAP price? I really am quite poor.

What kinds of prices should I be expecting to have to fork out? How much does renting a wee van cost? Does which ever person I persuade to drive me, if I rent a van, need a special Van-man-driver-licence? Or is that only for Big Vans?

Sort my life out please, beex. If it's too expensive then I'll just stick with the £35 quid train + suitcase method. (Which is around 33% of the stuffs owned by myself, really ;().

Do you not know anyone with a car?

You can get a moving van & men to move your stuff for you, or rent a van. You dont need a special licence unless its huge, but the cost might be a lot if you're not 25.

Do you have a friend that could drive a van so you could hire just a van rather than a man with a van?

Also, Watford is scary, but I do my shopping there some times.

See you around!

In 2 years I will be (read: no). What's this special 25-year-old rule? Also: I can't even drive a car.

As for friendlys driving me... I have to convince them to do a 6 hour round trip....

They hate under 25s - they're a liability and will crash the vans.

The under 25 rule only applies to vans though - you're safe buying (or indeed renting) ham and jam under 25. If anyone suggests you're not allowed jam or ham, punch them on the nose.

Insurance. Arseholes over 25 are less likely to crash than arseholes under 25, apparently.

If your stuff could fit in one carload I might be convinced to drive you for the cost of petrol (probably £50).

Edit: The 'when' would have to be convenient for me, though ;)

Couldn't you post all your stuff to your new address via City Link? I can't see ANYTHING wrong with that idea.

What about renting a man? What's the age limit on that?

"Ham and Jam" was the code-phrase delivered to report the successful capture of Pegasus Bridge, incidently.

And a number of the paras were under 25, note.

Ooooh, wouldn't know. You'd have to ask ... um... Craster. Yes, that's it. He's your "man".

If you passed your driving test after '97, the 3.5 tonne class (or 12 person, or something) is missing and you have to take an extra test to get it. That change in the law is pissing the police (in Merseyside, at least) off because there's a rapidly dwindling supply of ossifers who can drive the big carriers without being sent on a test that they don't have the money or time for.

Also: last time I moved, a LWB Transit cost £50 or so for a weekend from the local non-franchise van rental place, which was much less than the local franchise van rental places. It was a bit grotty, but had the requisite engine and attached big hole.

Happily, I'm only available to rent by the under 25s!

Have you considered a TaxiVan? They send a Luton van (so it doesn't have to come far if you're in Watford, boom boom!) complete with bloke to drive it - you do the loading, and then jump in the cab and he drives it where you need to be driven. Or, possibly for an extra fee, he hauls his lardy arse out of the cab and helps you.

I knew this! I put it there because of that. Incidently, I've never eaten ham with jam. Has anyone?
