It's certainly a brave move, John. I would have thought he'd have stayed on for another year, or taken a loan move across the Bosphorous, although joining a rival for more money probably would elicit cvertain cries of "Judas, Judas" but they wouldn't be wrong. Still, it is a large hole to fill, and without Benny marshalling the team from the midfield, there's a period of readjsutment required, so expect a more conservative 4-4-2 next thime they run out. Back to you, Des.

Twitter jokes are flooding in thick and fast, which is the most important thing in all this.

Pope resigns after testing shows he is 29% horsemeat.
Your Papal account has been suspended.
etc...

Personally, as mentioned in BnB, I think it is very strange. Old age and infirmity as the excuse? That's part of the job description...
Scandal may come out I expect.

I have literally no idea what this thread's about. It's not that difficult to write a coherent OP is it?

What I find most incredible, it that within the hour the betting sites had odds up for a list of about 30 candidates, all released at the same sort of time, with each of them having similar odds up.

Firstly, How the fuck did they get the list in the first place. I'm betting they didn't have a list ready, and haven't got papal experts sitting around to get a good idea of odds from.
Secondly, surely they had to have shared their odds around between the companies before releasing to the public. Are they allowed to do that?

Subtitles don't show on the mobile site, if Bamba is using that :)

This is also the reason that no-one ever comments on my amazingly witty subtitles...

Subtitles aren't visible on the mobile format - so many people don't see them.

Yep, this. :)

Also, and this is possibly just me being grumpy today, but even with humourous topic titles and whatnot wouldn't it surely be a good idea to just have something in the OP text that clearly mentions what the thread's about? If we were on Twitter or something then brevity's fair enough, but here we have the luxury of (almost) infinite characters. Let's luxuriate in that; really wallow in some text here!

And on a more constructive note: I think fair play to the guy. There's nothing stopping him staying in the job way past the point when he's too old to really be doing it to the best of his abilities; but he's come right out and said he's concerned that he's not fit to give the job it's due and so is stepping down. Exactly what you'd hope anyone entrusted with an important job would be willing to do, but often aren't.

Yep, this. :)

That they do.

Not that I disagree with him about anything else he said. Until his last post.

Hmm, yeah, they do actually; I must just be mentally glossing over them on the mobile site these days for some reason.

Perhaps someone else might get the hint.

Amen to that, Chinster. I cringe every time he's on TV.

Oh, now come on, you can't compare the two! One is the figurehead of an institution that has millions of followers and influences daily life across the globe!

The other is the Pope

He is just awful on Strictly these days, he only manages to look vaguely ok due to the plank of wood he stands next to...

Winkleman should be given the job.

I would imagine they do have a list ready, much in the same way that news agencies have obituaries ready, etc.

Watch her closely and you'll see her cringe every time she has to touch him.

I've just been reading a 'Guide to the next Pope' article that was published almost a year ago...there is always an interest in this kind of thing and with Ratzinberger now older than John Paul II when he died everyone it seems is dusting down their odds books.
