Who looks upset? The majority of people responding to that news have been either supportive or neutral.

And the £2 reference is never going to stop being funny really, is it.

I never really found it funny, the guy just misjudged his audience.

His current fundraiser proves there most certainly is a market for his talents, it was just never going to be amongst a bunch of pre-owned games buying cheapskates :hat: :)

Meanwhile in unrelated news, Duedil says a Bath based company just avoided being compulsorily stricken off:

https://www.duedil.com/company/07379286 ... ft-limited

Remind me again, wasn't that the company that produced an app that promised constant updates but was left to rot on the app store for ages?

Roof needs fixing this year. We've sort of been putting it off since we moved in and did get money knocked off the asking price of the house as a result.

It's in a fairly bad way now, (leaving it six years was not a good idea), and the horrible weather over this winter hasn't helped. (Slates off, slates loose, chimneys leaking, guttering a bit fucked (it's the original iron wrought guttering), it's all looking a bit sorry for itself.)

Quotations so far:

£9750

£11150

£10500

£7900

Fucking ouch.

I think I'll go with the £9750 dude, he spent ages sizing the job up (about 45 minutes) and has given by far and away the most detailed written quotation. It'll be the roof front and back, chimneys front and back, guttering front and back, utility room roof, and the bay window roof. The quotation also includes scaffolding front and back (it's a three storey house). He's also got loads of personal recommendations and is so busy he says he most likely won't get the job done until about May or June, but definitely this summer and before the weather goes to shit again.

Still, £10K is a lot of money >:| We don't actually have £10K, so it's gonna be a loan job >:(

Sometimes renting isn't so bad!

If it's any comfort, I don't know a single person who's had a pay rise of any description during the last 3 years. Not one.

Well, AFAIK most people got nothing or 1-2%.

I'm annoyed because I got a promotion, and apparently that's only worth 1% more.

And, of course, senior management will likely get large increases and 100% bonuses.

Don't get me wrong, I sympathise. But I know loads of people who have had "de facto promotions" - doing far more work, taking on much more responsibilities etc. - and still had nowt. Most of 'em are happy to still be in work at all.

Small businesses though? Forget it. No chance.
As for 'trickle down effect', well, the burgeoning *huge* middle classes of China, India, Russia, Brazil etc. disagree. Mind you, these are true Capitalist states. ;)

Indeed, it could be worse.

I get between 5 and 10 calls every week from recruitment agents as I'm in a growth industry. I might stop ignoring them.

*grumble*

Just viewed another shithole house. There appears to be a trend developing. We get to the house, estate agent comes out to meet us and says "oh, by the way..." and gives us a list of reasons why the house is a fucking dump, none of which were on the listing, which also, it transpires, has photos taken three years ago.

How do people live with mould growing on walls, ceilings and windows? With a stinking house, dirty bathroom and kitchen? More importantly, HOW DO THESE PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH RENTING A HOME AND ALLOWING TO GET INTO THAT CONDITION? Our house is nicer now than when we moved in! Do they just say "fuck it" and kiss their deposits goodbye? Don't tell me they still get their money back. And why are landlords completely not arsed about fixing these things? How do they expect to rent their places out?

There's a serious housing shortage, the rental market is pretty much completely unregulated, and landlords (WEALTH CREATORS LOL!) are basically free to fuck people over as they see fit.

Same as any sector though, there are good and bad folks, and it'll be dependent on the area you live in as well, plus how much money you've got to spend, of course.

I remember some of the student houses I lived in, fucking hell.......

Agreed. But before, pretty much *all* the numbers were living in abject poverty, that's the point.

There's a serious housing shortage?

WTB: Buy the bunglaow at the end of my road, it is £70k. We could be friends and go to the park and up Shipley Glen and things. Or you can get a three bed flat for £35k.

Tree falls onto the main phoneline near our property so that the only thing holding the tree up is the line.

If the tree falls further it could take the power line with it as well.

BT come out. Man on the ground is nice enough but informs me that BT probably won't do anything about the tree unless the line physically breaks.

Power company come out with giant cherry picker, cut the tree, but only so that if it falls it won't take their line with it.

Net result, at least we won't lose power but remainder of tree is still hanging from the line.

Joined up thinking! Especially since the phoneline is tethered to a pole that is the electricity companies responsibility!

Probably couldn't even get a mortgage for £35k as things stand!

The landlady for the last place I rented was like that. She only started to do something about the place when I'd given my one month's notice to move, so she was only bothered about filling it again as soon as possible. Hopefully she did something about the rising damp that I'd reported a few times and that nothing was done about. With the place I'm at now, the Landlord has been great so far - he replaced the oven with a brand new one without a second thought, even though it probably could have been repaired.

I might see if I can find a warmer place when this place comes to renewal time though. I dread packing and moving all my stuff again though.. I think I'll pay for someone else to do it next time. :)
