<MGS:Revengeance thread>

Can you play it on easy? I play all games on easy these days, because I'm impatient, idle and egotistic :D

Actually let me ask that in another thread

<scooby doo transition>

Hello new thread!

How do you play your games these days?

There was a time I would play games on the default setting, and ramp up to hard on a second play through if I really enjoyed it, but these days I put everything to baby mode and have fun romping through.

I usually play through on the default difficulty, but I'm not averse to switching to easy if I'm doing badly but want to see the game through to the end (the end of the story, that is). I have little time nowadays and I'm just not very good at video games.

I'm a 'Play on normal/easy and stroll' guy.

The only thing I've completed everything on hardest difficulty was Rainbow 6 Vegas 2.

Usually stick to Normal, although I always play Halo games on Heroic (Same with GoW and a couple of other shooters too).

I never drop the default difficulty. Ever.

"Normal" unless it gets silly, then it is "Easy". I've paid to enjoy the game, and see all of it. See alos: unlockable characters/locations/tracks

Always normal/default for me. If there's then an extra incentive for replaying on a harder level, then I'll do that afterwards. If it's achievement-related, the better games will give you the achievement for Easy if you've finished it on Normal, so you've not got to go through it twice.

Default difficulty unless I'm replaying something and want more of a challenge, or if it's a series I'm very familiar with already, where I might step up to harder difficulties. Can't really think of any time I dropped down to easy, I'm more likely to just persevere if I'm enjoying myself or stop playing if I'm not.

There's definitely some games that are just better on hard. RE4 springs to mind, where it forces you to be more careful with ammo, and there's also a couple of extra sections that are skipped on easier difficulty settings.

Part of my problem is I don't have the time anymore, nor the patience. As soon as a game pisses me off I move onto something else. Plus I've realised I play games for the discovery and a sense of progression and reward more than anything else. I don't play for the challenge, and i'm not hugely caring of the story, unless it is actually good, which is very rare.

I still want a challenge from my games, but story I care less about now. Games are so much bigger than they used to be that with my poor memory, I'm lucky if I can remember more than a handful of characters and their names, let alone what they did ten hours ago in the game.

Yet, thinking about it, this is purely for single player stuff.
My most fun gaming in recent years has been multiplayer battlefield, which is extremely hard at times! It still gives me the progression and reward aspects, but also gives me a challenge. Competing against real people makes a huge difference to me in terms of what i'm willing to invest time in.
Take Trials HD for example, I spent ages on that, and that is by no means an easy game. Would i have spent quite so long without the multiplayer competitive leaderboards? No chance.

This mostly represents me. I'd never start a game in Easy mode because part of me would feel I'd copped out and it would affect any sense of accomplishment when I finished the game. And to be fair I think the only time I've dropped the difficulty down to easy during play was a particularly ludicrous timed combat section in God of War 3 (but I put it back up again after that) but I would generally be prepared to drop the difficulty down if I was otherwise enjoying something and wanted to see it to the end. I think the only game I've actually given up on due to difficulty (as opposed to the game being shit/annoying) was Dante's Inferno and, now I think about it, I honestly can't remember why I didn't drop it down to easy for the rest of the playthrough because I was enjoying seeing the level design. Oh, I also did a playthrough of Uncharted 3 on very easy just to get all the collectibles but that doesn't really count.

Nearly always Normal with the exception of Halo which I'll play on Heroic.

I don't think I've ever dropped a game down a difficulty as if it can't be done on Normal after a suitable number of tries then it's shit and will get no further play from me. Not often that's happened but it saps my enjoyment so much I can never be arsed with the game again.

I start on Normal and then hate myself if it starts to get too hard and I switch to easy. But it's rare I play a game with a difficulty level. I play Rock Band on Hard and just about scrape through most songs on expert but only just.

I started playing Xcom on normal but it totally annihilated me.. So I switch to easy and it's still feeling pretty tough.

I basically concur with all of the above.

I always start out on Normal/Default, and will wind down to Easy if I'm not having fun.

The only exception I can think of to this for ages is XCom, which I wish I'd have played on Classic rather than Normal.

I guess WoW counts in a way too, in that I played that at the 'hardest difficulty level' 'cause I always aimed for the top tier content at the correct level for it (i.e. heroic dungeons and 10/25 man raids).

And maybe Borderlands 2's True Vault Hunter Mode, which is basically the same game again, but a lot more difficult.

Always on Hard these days. Normal is usually too easy, Harderer is usually broken. The exception being Halo.

I can honestly say I've never dropped a game down in difficulty after I've started it. I persist until it's done. That is, if I haven't got bored and started playing something else by then.

I don't think I'm 'ard though for doing that. I used to play games on normal or easy mode, but since cheevos came about, I tended to opt for the higher difficulty option. That's when I realised that you take a lot more of the game in when you're actually battling through it. Running around on easy tends to result in me missing a lot of stuff. To the point where good games seem a bit shit because I just ran through them.

I always start on hard, occasionally on "superhard" or whatever the hardest level is, and drop down as i get bored/stuck. I am not sure why, as i normally just give ip as it is too hard! :D

Not that many years ago I used to complain about games being too easy. Now, I stick to the default difficulty and if it's too easy I won't change it as I need to finish it a quickly as possible because I don't have time to play it. I suck at enjoying games, basically.

It depends entirely on the game for me. I like games being really hard as long as they are different on each attempt and you need to try a different approach to succeed. Ones where the difficulty comes just from remembering things can GTFF, though. No interest in replaying sections of those over and over until I can remember what is going to happen when, I'll just trot through them on normal or easy.

Standard for the vast majority of games for me.
CODs are about the only ones I go through and replay the single player campaign on higher levels.

I used to play on easy for everything but then I realised that I've been playing games all my life and if I'm not normal by now, I'll never be.

I would like to get through games quicker though... Time is sparse these days.
