How did you do the grass?

Scenic glue (PVA that dries with a matt finish) applied in spots then dropped Citadel grass (rubbed betwixt fingers to get a bit of static charge) on top. Then you turn the miniature upside down and flick it to make it stand up.

I must finish Kissyfeathers next.

After having a really good run with ace 40K books, I read Flesh Of Cretacia last week. Fucking awful it was. Really, really bad.

I'm glad you're there to tell me which ones to read.

The First Heretic is just as good (if not better!) than Flight of the Eissenstein. Still over half way to go on it yet.

Where Flight of the Eissenstein had me firmly on Garro's side (All the main traitor characters were nasty shits), The First Heretic really draws you into the Word Bearers way of thinking.

Do you know anything about 40k? Any space marine chapters that you like in particular? If you have no idea then probably bes to start with Horus Rising. If you do like any particular Space Marine Chapter then probably start elsewhere. I may have a *cough* test copy of all the W40K books for e-reader, if your interested let me know. Mr Z has already stolen them from me

There are some good short story compendiums too.

I know practically nothing about 40k

All the books have a few pages at the start that gives a brief explanation of the WH40k universe, so you'll have some clue.

I still find myself dipping into http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page to find out about bits I'm not that familiar with. It's a very rich world now having been added to of so many years by many contributors.

I have on occasion dipped into the lore and have been baffled by the scope. An easy jumping off point would be a great start.

I'll chuck you a couple of books when I get chance.

If'n you want a good base in the Horus Heresy series, the first three novels of Horus Rising, False Gods and Galaxy in Flames are a must first off. None are spectacular, but all are not bad either. Warning that Doccy G hated them. After that the rest are looser and run pretty independently from each other. Stand outs are The First Heretic & Betrayer by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Mechanicum & A Thousand Sons by Graham McNeill and Prospero Burns by Dan Abnett. Avoid Battle for the Abyss because it's shit, and Descent of Angels wasn't good either.

It's coming, but the resolution/materials for the home/hobbyist is miles behind the resin/white metal casting at the moment.

You'll have to make do with a paper craft army for now.

My mate made one where someone that already has one sends you a load of bits, you make your printer using the bits (and other bits that you have to buy), print the same bits out and send them to the next guy.

I think the one that your thinking of is Reprap, it is a community project about making self-replicating machines.



You get sent all the printable items, and iirc the metal parts that you need come to around £100, but it was quite a while ago when I had a proper look at it. Am waiting for the 4th or 5th generation myself as the 1st and 2nd are pretty clunky.

Sadly the Word Bearers trilogy is utter shit. Some interesting ideas unfulfilled and just a secession of battle reports.

I've got Dead Winter to start next, as I really enjoyed the gamesday anthology Skaven story. I gave up on the first Nagash book as in the first 150 pages, roughly 130 were used to describe army manoeuvres in tediously boring detail.

Ha, I know what you mean. I sometimes get half way through something and it takes a push to get over the middle hump of 'will this ruin it?!' stage.
