That London, 1975. Amateur super8 footage.

Dirty, depressing and Covent Garden is yet to be converted to shops and is partly derelict after the fruit market moved out.

A 40 minute drive around Southsea in 1983:

5 years later and at 14:20 you could have dived off to the left and played Space Harrier, Outrun and practicality every mid 80's arcade game you could think of usually in sit down cabs where available. Great place. Just grubby fruit machines and the like these days :'(

This is how the front at Southsea looks today (or when Google went through)

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=clarence+pier&ll=50.785524,-1.100134&spn=0.018884,0.042958&client=safari&oe=UTF-8&hq=clarence+pier&t=m&z=15&layer=c&cbll=50.785524,-1.100134&panoid=IqnvmXL1AZugY1_T2x56TQ&cbp=12,324.49,,0,14.93

[edit]

Hah! Go backwards (away from Clarence Pier/The arcades) and you go from 2012 back to 2008. Ironically the new look at the front of the funfair looks closer to the 1983 version than the Garish "Wheel of Fortune" version on show in 2008 which is more in keeping with my childhood.

It's 1989 and you are about to start work for a chain of casinos. This is the induction video:

It's like Paul Baron's nightclub. "A video production I was involved in producing in the productive product year of 19prodding89."

It's fantastic!

The 5 KW of lighting behind the camera to light the thing and causing multiple shadows everywhere while people end up looking washed out.

The terrible fashion.

54 seconds - Star filter klaxon! Also 4 redhead lights stuck behind the door while two people open them. The cameraman has to twiddle the star filter as well.

2.30 - An E Reg Volvo in a back street and its pissing with rain. Oh the glamour!

The terrible voiceover including a total tonal change at approx 3:35 that leaves you spitting your tea all over the desk.

7.32 - Chef goes walkabout around the resturant and then gets told to go back by the waitress.

11.33 - Woman walks towards camera with her crutch ending up filling the frame. I learnt all that subliminal meanings stuff about flapping curtains and trains going into tunnels at uni but does this mean that her husband will be getting a "portion" tonight?

16:09 - We've got one of those echo FX machines you used to find in studios and we're going to use it!

18:00 - We have our own song. And its shit.

And there is SO much more.

It's a new Looney Tunes cartoon that's had me in stitches in the office.

It has been doing the rounds on Facebook as "look at this news report", but it is in fact from a comedy show called Irish Pictorial Weekly. Done by the team who do the amazing "Apres Match".

30 years ago today, TVAM launched:

Includes bonus TVS startup. + kudos to whoever thought of putting a gorilla in the same sequence as Richard Keyes.

But I've posted that before. What I'm giving you today is an entertaining documentary about the on and off-air corporate back stabbing, bitching and sheer battle for survival that went on at TVAM.

Some very entertaining clips of Anna Ford seething on-air just before she was sacked and Angela Rippon being a bitch to Nick Owen.

Apparently a North Korean propaganda video for their space programme:

Although quite why they need "We are the world" as the backing music, is anyones guess.

Would work better with this TV theme dubbed over it:

The North Korean video has now been removed from Youtube due to a copyright claim by the makers of Call of Duty 3. Apparently a load of footage in it was nicked and wasn't actually of the glorious leaders massive rocket weapon after all.

Tried to buy a Cheetah Bug on Fleabay the other day but got outbid by someone. Probably Ashens.

Also the Amstrad JY-2 was bugged. You If you held down something like down and fire on the JY2, the second joystick would be unable to fire. Great for stopping your mate from scoring in football games.

Think its due to some missing circuitry in the stick.
