Why are MPC and WMP being shit? They're just playing maybe the trailers, and MPC is only doing it silent. What the fuck is going on? I ordered in room service so I could watch Kick Ass or something and now the fucking thing isn't working.

I can't use VLC as it needs admin privilege to install.

EDIT - work laptop running windows 7

You need codecs - you could try 9.7 standard from here but I think you'll get nailed on the admin permissions again:

This version of VLC shouldn't need installing.

Or get the .zip from this page: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
It doesn't need to install.

I'll give that a go, Troops, thanks. If it doesn't work I'll be sad. EDIT 0 on the other hand, I thik the St Regis in Singapore will have DVD players tomorrow, so I may be ok then. I've just had a wasted eveneing fecking around with the PC.

Grim... - but if your codecs is broke, surely the DVD wouldn't play at all? Both players are getting to different stages of the DVD, quite randomly. It's mentals.

That is odd.

Oh, so I needn't bother with VLC portable, then? I don't have a USB drive or anything with me.

EDIT - now Book of Eli is working, but the other dozen DVDs didn't. This is some fucked up shit.

You can just put it on your desktop.

Answer - no. DVD is just in the drive going "ee-er ee-er ee-er" like Zardoz's mum's bed in 2 for 1 hour.

I think it might be a problem with the drive, mate.

Make sure the disks are clean, try blowing into the DVD player in case it's dirty.

It plays CDs perfectly well. I'll give it a good blow.

You could try ripping the DVDs with Handbrake (portable install) and then watching the ripped files?
