Now about to watch because of suggestions:

Suits - 2 episodes in and it's not really doing much for me yet.
Awake - Loved it.
The Vault
White collar

Watched because of recommendation and will continue to do so even though it felt awkward and forced:

Elementary.

I like TV shows that offer a bit of escapism really and I have to say the likes of Breaking Bad and Dexter don't do it for me. I probably prefer things a bit lighter in tone.

Shows I like that I'm currently watching:

Covert Affairs
Castle
Once Upon a Time
Homeland
Big Bang Theory
Parks and Recreation
Community
Sanctuary (US)

Shows I'm currently watching but feel guilty about doing so because it's cheap tack exploitative rubbish:

Lost Girl.

Older shows I've watched and loved:
Box of Delights
Arrested Development
Firefly
Robin of Sherwood
House (apart from some late seasons which were just okay)
Chuck (though the first season was the best)
Sapphire and Steel
Children of the stones

Shows I've really enjoyed in the past that lost it in their third season:
Veronica Mars

Shows I've watched that didn't seem to quite do it for me but I might come back to:
Burn Notice

Shows that I initially enjoyed rather a lot but somehow seemed to end up not watching anymore but I feel I might start watching again:

Glee

Shows I was somewhat conflicted about but watched to their conclusion anyway:

Battlestar Galactica
Shows I really didn't like:

Game of Thrones
Bored to Death
Breaking Bad
The Wire

Any suggestions?

American Horror Story is quite good. Community is funny stuff and The West Wing is awesome (although I suspect you've seen it).

If you like driving off road, One Car Too Far is okay too ;)

The Mentalist
FireFly

If you haven't watched The West Wing then you really should give it a go

Maybe -

Grimm
How I met your Mother
The Good Wife
Community
The Wire (amazing but quite gritty)
The Shield (best cop series ending ever!)

Will add more as i think of them

If your after some fun puzzle / everyone did it but then didn't until they find the real baddie ones then Elementary is good (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elementary_%28TV_series%29 )

I also liked Perception (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perception ... _series%29 ) which has the main character as someone suffering with mental illness but helping the FBI with their investigations

Ah, it appears the first half of the season ended at episode 5.

Buy Eerie Indianna. Only 14 episodes, but every one of them save one is pure win. Joe Dante fun! Cleverer than the X-Files! Lots of B-movie in-jokes!

The episode where Marshall's friend Simon befriends a cash machine along is worth the price of admission. Possibly. Also, you get bonus John Astin.

I hugely second The West Wing. It's ace.

Also there's Twin Peaks, which is beautifully escapist. Series 1 is excellent.

Other no-sadness fun things are:

I, Claudius - Thrill to the exploits of Brian Blessed in an unusually restrained performance! Also starring the great Sian Phillips, George Baker, Patrick Stewart (with hair!), John Hurt and the excellent Derek Jacobi!

The Prisoner - You've probably seen it, and there's a couple of duffers, but this show is still pretty good fun.

Twilight Zone - Original series, natch.

Columbo - Series One. The second story is by a very young Steven Spielberg, and it's great!

Given the shows you like, you should enjoy 'White Collar'.

World-class con artist enlisted by FBI to catch other con artists, whilst still being a bit shady and thoroughly charming.

Really entertaining fun. Tim DeKay is acebest.

These are all worth a look IMO.

Chuck - nerds & spies
Person of Interest - Ben from Lost solving crimes.
Grimm - a bit Buffy-esque
Nikita - government conspiracies and spy stuff.
Haven - supernatural stuff based loosely on a Stephen King book.
Longmire - US rural police drama - great fun
Continuum - time travel & stuff.
Touch - Keifer Sutherland. Bit hard to explain but very uplifting at times.
Revolution - post apocalyptic but fairly light.
Falling Skies - post apocalyptic with aliens
Scandal - washington conspiracies.
Harper's Island - a murder mystery mini series.

already seen chuck, firefly and community. Grimm was passable but never really grabbed me. Watched one ep of white collar and it had potential. Prisoner i've seen and loved as well as most of pete's suggestions. The Vault sounds interesting. Thanks for suggestions everyone.

Anyone mention Deadwood? I'm rating it at Breaking Bad levels of excellence.

Edit: erm, if you really really liked breaking bad that is. Which you don't. But it's nothing like breaking bad, I just happen to think they are both up there in top 5 best shows ever.

Suits and Community, as others have said, are both ace.

Also, my boss tells me 10 times a day that The West Wing is excellent. Though he also liked Game Of Thrones... Tut.

(Game of Thrones is ace, though!)

I'm going to recommend stuff. But not new stuff. You sound surprised?

I've sung the praises of Robin of Sherwood on here before. A series with a budget that surpasses anything made today and a three way co-production between HTV, the company that made Chariots Of Fire and the American Arts and Entertainment network.

Sherwood had ambition. At a time when TV budgets were much higher than today (in real terms) it was the most expensive on-going drama series made by ITV (or the BBC come to that).

And now it's been re-released.... on Blu-Ray.

"You fool" I hear you cry. Why you spending money on some shoddy 80's series when you already have the DVD? Well Sherwood was shot on 16mm film and although while not full HD quality, it's still capable of higher resolution than your standard 625 line PAL. While quality can vary, often this is just due to the directors making use of heavy filters that helped the series achieve its stylised look or optical effects being applied. The point of the release is that although it will never compete in picture quality with modern HD, it will be the best this series ever looks.

While some of the mythology that appears in the series can grate, overall it's hugely enjoyable with some terrific performances from some young actors who went on to achieve great things. It says alot about the quality of that acting that Ray Winstone is still delighted to be involved with the series all these years on and always speaks of the series in glowing terms. It also speaks alot of the series that when Prince Of Thieves was made, the producers of that movie ended up paying money to the creator of Robin Of Sherwood. Why? Well they'd inadvertently stolen some elements of the Robin Hood legend that were only in fact created for Sherwood. It was Terry Walsh who was stunt arranger on both that spotted this and arrangements were quickly made.

For your 30 quid you get the first two seasons of the series. It's not cheap but you have to remember the work that has gone into getting this release out and the limited appeal.

Curiously there are 5.1 mixes for each episode despite it being a mono show. I assume like Who of this era, Sherwood was recorded split track. So they've been able to remix the sound although the dialogue is always fixed in the centre channel. The 5.1 does its job but its nowhere near as nice as some of the original series Doctor Who 5.1 DVD's that have been released.

It's a seminal series and well worth having on Blu-Ray. At its best the entire look is very filmic (especially the culmination of the opening feature length episode), at its worst it can be a tad plodding and all the stuff with a bloke walking around wearing a deers head is tedious.

893 Bananas.

Most of what I enjoy has already been mentioned on here, there are some good suggestions.

I do enjoy watching Supernatural with Lady T, although the last few seasons have felt a little 'phoned-in' after the excellent 4th and 5th series. Can be a little cheesy and teeny at times but I genuinely enjoy it.

Boardwalk Empire is great, we watched series 1 & 2 in quick succession and are waiting to start series 3. It's well written, gripping and as an extra bonus nearly every episode has boobies on show.

If you're going to stick Monk in this, then I'd recommend Elementary as well (don't think it's been mentioned yet). It's the US version of Sherlock but to me is much more like Monk in tone.

Also that Templars episode of Robin of Sherwood is brilliant (although I've not seen it since it was on originally).

Monk is ace, but it's kind of 'afternoon viewing', and Diagnosis Murder was better because Dick Van Dyke was in it

Someone mentiopned Elementary up there, in the same post as they mentioned perception.

I watched the first few perceptions, and quite liked it, but it got a bit samey quickly, so I stopped watching (and deleted the series link from my sky+ box)

Have you seen The Middleman? Based on what you've said it seems like the sort of thing you'd like and I'm going to stop talking now before I get angry that it was cancelled after one series.

Also, I'm going to add my voice to the advocates of Community. If you like Big Bang Theory and Parks And Rec it's almost a can't miss proposition.

Definitely a bit of repetition in there (some spoilery notes below) but it does change things up later on so if its still available to you I'd say give it another go (especially since there are only 10 episodes so far)

Perception mild spoilers below

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
You do get quite a few episodes where its very setup that the person initially suspected has a mental issue which only Daniel can spot and diagnose + that he will resolve it with help from the people in his head who drop all these special clues for him - but for some of the episodes nearer the end it does take a bit more of a twist with him ignoring people thinking they are just figments of his imagination only for them to be real , and then he meets people who he's imagined.

It does go down the 'story of the week' quite a bit but there looks to be enough of an opportunity to mix things up - my favorite two episodes are tracking the killer where the only person who could identify him is someone who is in a mental hospital because she has her memory reset every day back to when she was a teenager , and the last 2 episodes which have the 'its all a dream' stuff along with the cliffhanger where you realize it may not actually be

Another I forgot to mention but sorta worked for me as 'cop show of the week with an unusual character trait' was Unforgettable : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unforgetta ... _series%29 with the twist that the main character (hot redheaded lady) remembers everything she's seen so can 'walk back over' crime scenes (and yes there are a number of occasional ridiculous reasons why they simply cant really go back and look at the place) , with the story arc also her hunting the killer of her sister which happened when they were both children (and is one of the reasons given why she has such a great memory) - at the end of season one it was cancelled but now has been picked up for another season.

Lots of good suggestions already. I'd add:

The Unit (good trash fun)
Life (cop show about a cop who was wrongly sent to prison for 12 years, with Damian Lewis being amazingly manic - sadly canned after 2 serieses, but not a reflection on how good it is. Mrs K described it as "Castle, but funny")
Grey's Anatomy (ER with a sense of humour)
Sons of Anarchy (quite unlike many things I've seen before - morality tale set around a biker gang - loosely based on Hamlet)
Prison Break (series 1 only)
Boston Legal (the Shatner being awesomest)
