Adobe have released the 2005 CS2 Creative Suite for free:

http://fstoppers.com/have-an-older-computer-download-adobe-cs2-premium-plus-free

Although years out of date the version of Audition will be very serviceable as will Photoshop. Premiere will be OK if you transcode your footage first.

Newer Macs will not be able to run it as its PPC code. PC's seem to have less issues with it.

He's joking. Nobody in their right mind pays money for it for personal use though, as Adobe themselves acknowledge with this move :)

I'd imagine its bloody hard to crack these days. I had enough trouble getting my upgrade licence activated by Adobe last year. I'm pretty convinced it phones home on a regular basis as well.

It's very easy to crack, just a keygen and a change to the hosts file to stop it phoning home, or so I'm told.

I expect it easier to get a cracked version, than it was to get your license activated, as is the way with these things these days.

You should put this in the bargains thread ;)

The site was down earlier, but it was back up half an hour ago.

Don't trust it.

They'll hook people in like heroin dealers do. Sell cheap, then crank the price up when there is no way out. I know various people, some of whom it would be far cheaper for, that don't trust the scheme at all and are sticking with their standard licences.

Excuse me for sounding ignorant.. but what is this? Is it just photoshop for or is there other stuff included with it? I'm thinking there might be as it's a "suite"?

Yeah, all sorts of stuff: Flash, Dreamweaver, Premier, etc. Basically all their "editing" software.

Would one of them be video editing by any chance? Premier sounds like it could be?

You'll get whatever was in the full Creative Suite when CS2 came out. So Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Audition, etc.

In fact I'm looking at it right now.

The internal combustion engine is "complicated", but the monkey down at the garage can fix my car.* It's learning how to use it.

Premiere CS2 almost certainly won't place nicely with H264/AVCHD codecs so be aware. At that stage they'd only just got it working well with HDV. 1.5 required a load of updates and extra codecs for it to work.

* Usually.

Thanks for this, Chinny. The third part of the photography tutorial that I wrote on my website and that is in a current magazine uses photoshop as the example for photo editing, so I know that there will be many grateful people who can now follow the steps. I wrote it when using CS3, but the steps in my example were the same in CS2 (and remain so in the current version).

For the Mac version, Snow Leopard was the last version of OSX that supports PPC code. So if you have Lion or Mountain Lion on your Mac you won't be able to run it.

Indeed. But I thought it might be an idea to warn people so they don't have a wasted download if they have a post Snow Leopard OS on their Mac.

I did, funnily enough. I Yo-Ho-Ho'd Lightroom 3 through a cunning and remarkably easy hack directed at the trial software, so you had to manually update but you could live off the trial for ever. After a year, I was so enamoured that when Lightroom 4 came out I just happily shoved my money in Adobe's hands. It coming down from £170 to £100 helped somewhat.

I'm very happy having supported it, and have even been moved to forgive Adobe the horrendous laggy bloat that is PDF.

I'm looking forward to dipping into this at some point, cheers for sharing Chinny!

IMPORTANT!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks as if the entire Adobe thing has been one big hoax. This despite being reported on reputable websites such as Forbes, Gizmodo and CNET.

What has been suggested to me is that actually Adobe are just withdrawing the activation servers. So if you have a CS2 key you can now use the software without any activation being required.

What's confused things is that Adobes site has been overwhelmed and you can't actually get on there.

It's a developing picture but one that sadly makes perfect sense.

Picture becoming clearer.....

Adobe announced CS2 was end of life and they were turning the activation servers off. To prevent peoples software from ceasing to work, they uploaded new copies of the software that no longer needed activation along with serial numbers for said software.

Quote:
"On behalf of Adobe Systems Incorporated ...

You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See .

You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!

- Dov"

"Special serial numbers that work with these downloads are included on the download page.

However, please note that you are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you already have a valid license to the product!

So basically they've put the software on a webpage with the serial numbers needed but you are only supposed to download it if you are a registered user.

Rather like leaving a Ferrari in a carpark in Liverpool with the keys in the ignition and the engine running. What could possibly go wrong?

Actually, I'd say it is closer to parking a Ferrari on my drive, and posting the keys and the V5 with my name on it through the letterbox.

Wonder how they are going to react. Apparently the webpage has been killed but the direct download links still work and the serials are now out in the wild. It's a HUGE fuck up.

How to save face? Pretend it never happened and watch while the exe's that require no cracking at all circulate on torrent sites while moaning how pirates are killing them or man up and just stick CS2 out there for anyone to use.

It'll be the first won't it?

The smart move from Adobe would be to say: "You know what? Enjoy. Oh, and as an extra celebration, Creative Cloud is [special offer]% off for the next week."

They'll be an announcement later apparently. Some people think Adobe might say "oh hang it, download it for free". I'm not so sure. Lets wait and see. Either way they have a PR disaster to avoid.

Yeah, all along. I must confess, I have kind of been wondering what you've been going on about with hoaxes and such.

Whether or not they meant for everyone to be able doesn't matter.

The hoax was that Adobe were being all lovely and fluffy and had gone "there you go, have that all for free". That's what several sites reported.

They had done no such thing. They'd just messed up.

Rumour has it that the installs I linked to now verify your original serial number. Worth a go though so someone should give it a try (I can't, only have a Mac on me today).

That's exactly what they've done - doesn't matter if they meant to do it.
