My sister's neighbours ( ) has bought each of their kids an acer tablet for Christmas. One of them has set one of those picture passwords and now has locked themselves out of their tablet as they can't remember the gestures, or can't work it well enough to get it to recognise what they drew.

Apparently all sorts of people have tried to help out in unlocking it, but nobody can. I don't suppose anyone happens to know if there is a way to re-set it in windows 8, or will it be device-specific?

They have contacted the manufacturer who has said they can send it back to have it re-set at a cost of £76

Most laptops these days have a hidden restore partition which would at least allow them to reset it back to the standard image (and if there is not I bet you can download an ISO to put on a memory stick to rebuild it) - get the specific versions of the laptop and google for a restore image or restore partition.

(if not then my other suggestion would be to get hold of a legitimate iso of Windows 8 and boot from that and re-install over the top which should get you at least back into windows with all the drivers and things intact)

It's a tablet rather than a PC/laptop, though I have just heard back and from the sound of it they might have got it back to a factory reset.

Apparently it has been locked up since Bi j g Day :/

I've sent her the link to that video just in case. It turns out that my sister's husband took it into his work and someone there sorted it this afternoon.
