Okay, I've removed one and now running Memtest. I'll get back to you once it's done

Wow, it's going so much faster with only 1 stick in.

I'm no expert but I don't think a PC should go faster, the less RAM it has. ;)

The test may be quicker due to having less memory to test. Just maybe.

Ahhh.. I thought that Cookie meant that the PC was going much faster. My mistake.

I told you I wasn't an expert.

Okay, the stick I believe to be the problem one has been removed, other one put back in. Running MemCheck again to make sure all is fine, then if it is, I'm playing something on PC (Hopefully without it crashing :D )

Bad News: I am down to 4GB of RAM, and probably will be for a few weeks :(

Thank you so much AtrocityExhibition, Pod, and all the others who helped me :DD

You seem to have misspelled "Mostly Indifferent" as "Bad".

Utterly Terrible News: Now I'm down to 2GB, as I have to send both Sticks back :'(

EDIT - This post was written when I thought Cookie was still running on 4GB.

The truth of the matter is that you probably won't notice much difference Cookie, just about all mainstream games and apps are written to run in the 32-bit application address space, which is capped at 1.5GB, whether you're on a 64-bit OS or not.

EDIT - And now when I see he's on 2GB.

Ahhh right, I am behind the times.

I see we're now down at 2GB.

This is indeed not good.

It will curtail your gaming a little bit, as that really isn't much RAM, but browsing and stuff should still be OK.

Just think, when you get your new shiny sticks of RAM it will almost seem like an upgrade after all those crashes, and then 'slumming it' for a while.

I put up with dodgy RAM for a long time but there's just no point, once the computer is stable it will seem like a whole different beast. Then you can look at future upgrades (I SRSLY like the snappier feel of the SSD I use, and I'm not even using my PC for games).

It's the RAM that I first got with my PC. Unfortunately I couldn't use it along with my other 8GB because my Motherboard is weird.
The Corsair website said it will be about 4 weeks until I get it back. That's not too bad, I don't really use my PC that often for gaming anyway. (I've only started to really use it recently because of NervousPete inviting me to games.) It will still be rubbish though. It probably won't be able to run Skyrim very well anymore :(

You don't want to be mixing RAM like that anyway, DDR RAM works best in matched pairs, preferably the same manufacturer and exact type, of the same capacity.

The days of just lobbing any old random stick of RAM you might have handy into a spare slot are long gone.

They were both made from Corsair and DDR3, but the similarities stop there.

I once again find myself having to ask you lot for help.

I was playing Company of Heroes, and it went to a cutscene. It went on for about 2 seconds, and then my screen went black. When the picture came back, the screen was 'scrolling' up. (When it reached a top, it started come up from the bottom, an infinite loop.)
I managed to shut it down, using the 'shut down' button, and then started it back up, hoping that it was fixed. When I restarted it, my Monitor complained about an unsupported signal. The windows 'start-up repair' screen appeared for a few seconds, then it went back to unsupported signal. So, I shut it down using the power button on the side. Then, being the idiot that I am, I tried starting it up again. This time, all my monitor said was 'no signal'.

Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with it?
Written on a rubbish 5 year old laptop running rubbish windows 8.

Sounds like your graphics card has gone bang. Have you tried reseating it (and all the cables)? Have you got a spare you can try?
