It's a big sprawling conurbation split into several administrative 'boroughs', holding somewhere around 11 million people. It's the nation's capital city.

Snow south of London, though not very much. It petered out north of Croydon though.

And a very light dusting in the south of Oxfordshire (more visible on the fields at the side of the road than anywhere else)

I might park the car at the top of the hill this afternoon, and walk to it in the morning as it is going to freeze overnight and earlier this week, the bottom of the hill was very slippery and a car went through a wall.

First proper snow flurry of the season this morning, but only for about 20 minutes or so and it hasn't stayed.

Brilliant start to the day. I had to USE foot WITH door to open the porch, then the enxt step I was lying on the floor, looking at the sky swearing. "Fuckitycuntbollocks" next door's children heard. I probably should apologise later. Really, really icy.

Argh, trains are all fucked up down here in the 'diff thanks to flooding and I've a horrible feeling I'm going to be screwed over trying to get home Christmas Eve after work closes at four pm. Really pisses me off that we're open that day, nobody ever, ever, comes in Christmas Eve apart from a few shuffling, prune-faced, obsessive regulars who's notion of seasonal cheer is to scowl at us and whine, zealously guarding their paranoid projects like that bit with Comic Book Guy photocopying his sci-fi movie script. Wish I could have taken the day off but it wasn't my turn.

So if I manage to beg half an hour off work I can get back for five past eight, but if I can't then I don't get home until quarter to ten, and with all the disruption I dread to think of when I'll finally get back to Hudds. But it's not an option for me, I've spent every Christmas at home and I'm buggered if I'm not going to manage this one.

First 'snow' here... it was pretty cold and windy last night but a pathetic dusting is all that's there this morning. There might be more later today but it's not really much of anything.

Pete, don't forget there's a number of ways to get out of The Wales by train. You can get to Brum via Brizzle, Chepstow/Gloucester, Hereford or Shrewsbury. Heck, go up to Manc direct from Cardiff if that's possible.

I've just looked at the long range forecast and immediately wished I hadn't. Temps in the mid minus teens over the next few days, feeling well into the minus twenties with the windchill.

My dad and I just tried to fix his gate in the freezing cold, not a good experience!

The weather reports are all contradicting each other, one calling for between 4 and 10 inches of snow by Wednesday, and another saying oh no, just a light dusting of lake effect snow and that's it.

Bleh.

Apparently we are due -10 this weekend and snow next week...

It's been a pathetic winter here so far. Night time temps have barely dipped into the minus twenties and daytime temps have been either hovering around freezing or minus single digits, apart from a spell around Christmas where it was a little colder. That's discounting the windchill, which can be pretty horrible at times.

Worst of all - almost no snow! I can't remember a previous winter where we've had so little snow at this point in time. Snowfall usually peaks in February/March, but there's usually a fairly significant permanent covering by now - at least enough to actually do some fun winter stuff. My snowshoes haven't even come out of their case so far.

There is a garden over the road from me me and the cherry trees are in full bloom.

Last year? I want to punch that stupid fat spike-headed cunt on CityPulse who does the weather. After all that bullshit about placing bets as to when the proper first snow would arrive, he now talks with glee about it warming up later this week. Fuck off, cunt. There's snow and ice around still but the park we can see out the window is showing more and more mud and grass and less snow.

Washed the cars this weekend with only a short sleeved shirt on! And pants.

Most of the seeds in my bird feeders have sprouted.

It's not 100% 'nailed on' yet, but there's a pretty good chance that the UK could experience some snow (some parts maybe a lot of snow) from this weekend (12th Jan) into next week. It could also get bloody cold (and I mean not getting above zero during the day). Over the weekend the situation is more marginal in the southwest and west of the UK, so some places might just see cold rain, sleet or maybe wet snow.

As with all weather forecasting, and especially cold/snow forecasting, there's a chance that it might not happen as the computer models are really struggling badly with the current signals, but overall the majority favour cold or very cold for at least this weekend and probably into next week too. As a follower of weather computer model output I'd say that some cold weather preparations are in order, just to be on the safe side.

So, check the antifreeze in your car, make sure your pipes are lagged, get your snow shovel ready, rock salt in stock for your path, stock up on boxes full of cans of beans ( ), make sure your boiler oil tank has enough oil (but only if it uses oil of course ....... ) etc, etc, etc.

Having said all this it will now probably rain, but if it does then don't blame me! I am but a mere messenger.

Well it's snowing like an absolute sod here and has been for most of the day, fortunately it's not stuck (or even begun to). The locals tell me it probably won't either, hopefully it'll stop by the time I have to walk back to the hotel as it's coming 'down' almost horizontally with all the wind the moment.

We have snoo this morning, it's very fine and looks wet on the ground but it is sticking. One hopes the snoo ploo has been round toon because we have to go out soon in the super low golf.
