So, the absolute worst records of all time then........

Reginald Bosanquet was a newsreader for ITN until 1979. Anna Ford said of him ""Reggie was a dear. I mean, you wouldn't have chosen a man who had epilepsy, was an alcoholic, had had a stroke and wore a toupée to read the news, but the combination was absolute magic."

In 1980 "Reggie" decided to record his own disco record called "Dance With Me". Before you listen, keep in mind that this is a real proper record that was released.

Now matter how many times I listen, I can't quite believe it actually happened.

That top one is pretty bad, although it does kind of sound like Ian Dury

Whenever Ian Dury comes on the radio at work I always think it's Phil Tufnell.

Reggie was a bit of a character. Apparently he'd go in to read the news armed with a glass of wine that he'd place on a special shelf under the desk. He'd then drink it during the film reports to keep him "relaxed". ITN used to make him prove he was sober by walking along a specially painted line on the studio floor before he went on-air!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/organgr ... ion.tvnews

That's the kind of character we need on TV. Not that dull little Welshman who reads the news.

I had been meaning to try and listen to Metal Machine Music for a while now, and have just started watching it on youtube, in the office at work.

4 minutes in and it's both intriguing and irritating. I don't know how long I'll be able to listen to it as I suspect it may induce a headache.

I've heard some of the stories behind it and have been curious to experience it for myself, people say it's pretty bad (is it serious? Was Lou 'trolling' to piss people off? Was he just hepped up on goofballs?).

EDIT: 14 minutes 30, that's enough for now I think.

That's the first record I ever bought. On 12 inch. From a record shop that appeared in a Shakin Stevens video the following year.

We were just walking to the bus stop and this was kicking off at the record shop.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ep0vWiJc6Xw#t=151s
(sorry for the advert but that's the way with Youtube these days)

Years later I worked for the guy who had owned the record shop (long since closed). I asked him where he was the day Shakey visited. The answer was surprising. He knew it would be mental so he went to his office the other side of town and did his accounts! He never got to meet the British Elvis!

Next to the record shop (on the left) was the newsagent where I bought all of my Amstrad budget games between about 1986 and 1991.

I had it on tape, and I think it was also the first one I bought. I bet I still know all the words to every song.

I'm on my phone - someone drop in "What are we gonna get for her indoors" by the Minder folk for me.

That is shit.

But what if you took a global best selling popular track, removed the vocal and added two Dutch rappers?

<ahem>

The first single I bought was "Opposites Attract" by Paula Abdul. On 7 inch. From Woolworths. A lot of redundancy there.

I remember buying that along with Bad Religion's re-release of "21st Century Digital Boy" from Bridge Records in Walsall. It was a Saturday, quite cloudy. I found both in the bottom right hand corner of the shop and they were three quid each. Madness.

Interesting FACT!

The bus on "Summer holiday is not a routemaster. it is, in fact an AEC Regent III RT. Tricky to tell them apart at a glance, but the windows are a good giveaway.

First single that I remember either me or my brother buying (I think it was probably him) was the Fraggle Rock single.
First cassette would have been Queen's first album which I bought from Boots.
