Anybody else going to be downloading it just to see what the hell it is all about, and if there is actually anything more than that?

Indeed it is, with in game purchases! I assume those are to buy better hammers that do more damage, but I can't even get the thing to start to have a look.

It's very slow to load the current state of the cube, as in minutes rather than seconds.
The IAP are internal currency based (at the moment) you earn coins by tapping, I currently have 877 after less than a minute.

I think i've explored everything there is to explore with this game, i might try and draw a huge penis across the cube for everyone to see.

Yeah I got bored of it after about a minute. Someone has written "fuckers" across it in a size that must have taken quite some time and dedication.

So not having a phone capable of "playing" this, what do you actually do? Just tap at the screen with your fingers or something?

Exactly, pinch to zoom out, drag it to rotate the cube, tap to zoom in and then tap to remove a block from the cube. That's it.

So you just drum your fingers seeing black pixels disappear? Does it get harder? Is it fun in any way shape or form?

No, you have make it fun by making patterns and shapes. It's sort of like Minecraft, if it was designed to be playable by amoeba.

It seems more like an experiment rather than a game. I quite like the idea of it though despite the price of some of the in app stuff. Apparently there different things to each layer and they might have the next game announcement on one of them.

Pretty much. It isn't fun in the slightest. I'll probably check in every so often to see if anyone has written or drawn anything funny and see how small it is getting.

It's supposed to be vaguely relaxing with the sound on as the music and noises are supposed to be nice, but i'm in the office so can't try that.

Funnily, I'm watching a documentary on the prison system. They're just talking about hard labour prisons in Wales in the 1800s, where prisoners broke rocks all day in mind numbing tedium to "break their spirit and independence".

It literally is an experiment - to see whether people's curiosity about what might be hidden within is enough to drive them to hammer repetitively at a massive cube for hours on end in tedious fashion.

There are 100,000,000 blocks on the first layer of the cube.
Current count is 52,000,000 left.
There are 30000 "players"

It would be absolutely brilliant if everyone started working together to write "Can't be arsed, Peter" in huge letters on the next layer, and then all fucked off and left it sitting there.

It's rubbish, by the way.

You can't as far as I can see, all purchases are currently done via in game currency which you earn by tapping.

Apparently the interior is a video link of some description. I'd like to think it's a video of Molytwat lifting his ballsack up to show his puckered towel holder. While laughing.

I'm amused by the whole idea and think that this kind of high-concept stuff is excellent. Which doesn't mean I'll sit and tap away at it for any length of time when they get the Android version up but I'll certainly have a fiddle with it and am intrigued by the outcome (albeit more for the rage and shouting it'll cause no matter what the 'prize' is than by the expectation that the prize itself will be anything worthwhile). I think of it more as a very high-tech art installation than as a game of any kind.

Got the Android version and it turns out that at the centre of the cube is the message, "Error accessing server". TheVision's right, this was a terrible idea.

Welcome back...

Error accessing server.

I'm waiting for Molyneux's self-indulgent blog post where he explains that this is all "part of the experience".

Working fine on iOS here, perfect for Halo breaks.

I don't have a Facebook because I'm too cool though, can someone tell me what linking it to that shithouse does? There's a couple of icons in the corner which don't do much, and an arrow moves to the Facebook icon.

It's just a descent into the fetid depths of Molyneux's ego. At the end, the poor sad sack who finally cracks it (if there's anyone left playing it by then) will probably just unlock a trailer for the sequel, Dodecahedron.

Oh I dunno, his track record was pretty solid in the Bullfrog days, and Black & White was a flawed gem.

It's only post-Fable the hype has tended to overreach the games IMO.
