Ok, fine, posted today, game out tomorrow. But then i click their delivery policy...

Quote:
All deliveries are made free of charge to all UK postal addresses. This free service usually takes 3-5 working days from the date of posting.

For pre-orders of new releases, we post items in time to arrive on the day of release. As items are sent via Royal Mail, delivery days can't be guaranteed and delays can sometimes occur, so please bear this in mind when contacting us.

Unfortunately, we are unable to deliver our products to any address outside the UK or to the Isle of Man, Orkney, Shetland and Scottish Islands and BFPO addresses.

All orders are despatched via either Royal Mail and are made to mainland UK and Northern Ireland addresses. We are unable to provide named day deliveries.

So, is it coming tomorrow on in three to five days? I can see myself having to buy this game twice now to have it on release day. I can barely afford to buy it once, which is why i had to go to Sainsburys in the first place. I thought they'd be better than this.

:-(

Not good - my pre-order for BLOPS2 is from Sainsburys since they had the best deal a few months back and generally had a good reputation for quick deliveries - I'd be interested in knowing when you get it

(Im not at work next Tuesday so if it does not arrive in the first post I'll take a walk down to the shop - buy it and then return the sealed one when it arrives later in the week if thats the case)

I reckon it'll turn up. The terms and conditions just seem like a worse case scenario to me.

Errr... This seems entirely reasonable and normal practice to me. Not sure what you are complaining about? It'll most likely come tomorrow, but the only way to be sure if getting a game on release day is to buy it in a shop, same as it has always been.

The email explicitly states that it will be posted to arrive on release day. They can't give you a cast iron guarantee though as it is up to Royal Mail.

Just phoned them to ask whether I am getting it tomorrow or not... It was sent out second class today, according to the guy. I asked him how that was sending it out for release day, he explained that sometimes with popular games the warehouse has problems getting on top of orders.

Fucking wankers. I'm off to the shops in the morning.

Glad I don't get customer service off you, then. What's reasonable about waiting until the day before release to send it out second class?

They might not physically have it in stock, they might have an agreement with the supplier to not ship on that day... Lots of reasons. If waiting 24 hours is too much then spend the extra tenner and buy it from a shop on the day, as someobe said.

What's the actual official release day? Obviously most UK releases are at the end of the week, so maybe they're posting to co-incide with what would normally be the release day if it hadn't been a weird early-week release?

Tomorrow is the release day.

Malia... I orderd this september and there was no indication of it being sent out second class. The EDD was tomorrow, now im told theres no way that will be met, once they have taken my money and even if I cancel today, itll be next month before I get my money back, so there's not really the money there for me to buy it elsewhere, let alone that that would be more expensive. Maybe you have sufficient income that you can be flexible with such things, but I don't. This is the first xbox game I've had the spons to get on release in over a year.

Obviously the original "preorder now for 6/11/12" wording is gone from the website so no I can't.

Why didn't you buy it from a place that guaranteed you would have it for release day then, like a shop? Or even an online place that guaranteed release day delivery?

I know the game is out tomorrow, but a Tuesday release is so not normal that I just meant that they may well have their shipping procedures set up for end of week deliveries for new releases.

I think that buying any game online carries the risk of not turning up on day of release. On the plus side, you've saved yourself a tenner which I would be happy with.

Because that was the implication from Sainsburys, they have a good reputation in any case and I'm fucking broke and need to save money wherever I can. They were nearly a tenner cheaper than anywhere else and had the same dates on their site as anyone else.

Whats your fucking problem anyway? My point is that they say they despatch for release day and now that they have my money theyve not done so. What has that got to do with any other place? If they did what they said they were going to I wouldn't have a problem. Sending shit out second class the day before release isn't even trying to get something out for release day. Thats my issue. The guy even admitted it should have been sent out last friday or thursday.

Halo 4 release day Tuesday 6th Nov
BLOPS2 release day Tuesday 13th Nov
Hitman Absolution release day Tuesday 20th Nov

Resi 6 release day Tuesday 2nd Oct
Xcom Enemy Unknown release day Tuesday 9th Oct
Dishonored release day Tuesday 9th Oct
007 Legends release day Tuesday 16th Oct
Forza Horizon release day Tuesday 23rd Oct
Assassins Creed III release day Tuesday 30th Oct
Need for Speed Most Wanted release day Tuesday 30th Oct

(and many many more - Tuesday is a normal release day for the UK)

What tends to happen is that games for release on a Tuesday are posted 2nd class on the Saturday beforehand , which should mean it does arrive on the Tuesday but occasionally arrives on the Monday (so people get it early)

I wouldn't say that it's normal. The majority of games still get released on a Friday.

If cash is tight, why buy it twice just to have it on release day? It is clearly something you value, so paying the money straight up is therefore worth it. Then you would't have to worry. Is chasing the order wirth £10 of your time?

My "fucking" problem, as you so eloquently put it, is that fundamentally this should be in the 1st world problems thread ;)

It's not a big deal, why make it into one. It isn't actually release day yet, you are still reasonably likely to get it tomorrow, and this isn't a problem that has come out of nowhere, it's a completely foreseeable situation.

My response is a resounding

If someone is clearly flustered about something, don't come in and reply all "meh, stop whinging, first world problem lol!". That's annoying!

Didn't we do this a few weeks ago?!

It's the same attitude that annoyed me and others in the games journalism thread. One of "this isn't important to me, so I'm going to just point and laugh at people who care." It's most un-excellent. To each other.

It amazes me that after all of these years, discussing games and getting excited about them on this very forum, which is ostensibly a gaming forum, that people can't seem to fathom the mindset of some of us. That is, if we pre-order a game for release day, a hotly anticipated game that we're excited about, we might be a bit fucking annoyed if we find out it isn't going to turn up on time.

It's not normal, it's new this year for so many of the "Christmas" releases. Last year MW3 was released on a Tuesday, most other stuff was released on Fridays.

I think there are a lot more of them this year but for the last few releases COD games have always been on a Tuesday (and so have some of the other 'big' games of the year so stuff like Fifa / Halo / Gears have been released on a Tuesday in the UK)

Yeah, usually big games with the popularity to make it on their own. They give themselves their own day so everyone buys their game alone. But, as said above, it's far from normal for most games.

I don't think anyone's saying 'don't be annoyed'. It's more a case that there are so, so many tales of failures to get games to arrive on release day that saying 'if it's that important to you, pick it up from a shop' isn't an unreasonable position to take.

While it would be annoying if it didn't turn up on day one, I still think that saving a tenner is more important.

I don't know one online shop that will guarantee something turning up on day one as they're all at the mercy of the post office.

Still, fingers crossed it will turn up for you.

I totally agree , however I think the idea that shops then have a 'problem' making sure people have their pre-purchased games available on release day because that day happens to be a Tuesday is not valid.

I've just check my Sainsburys details and I 'ordered' the game in mid August - now i'm happy that Sainsburys dont actually charge you until dispatch but a lot of places will be sitting on a large amount of cash from people who have coughed up their own money to get the game when its released and thats all that I'm looking for.

In the past i've pre-ordered games from Zavvi which took over a week from launch to arrive (and from Amazon / Tesco and Shopto which all arrived on launch day) - I think we have also discussed in the past having a thread or sticky somewhere to list companies who generally get the game to you on time and those that dont.

Unlike GY i'm lucky in that if the game i've pre-ordered does not arrive i can go and pick up a 2nd copy and return one - despite the hype i'm pretty confident that any supermarket will have BLOPS2 on the shelf next week and I dont need to worry about £45 or whatever right now to pick it up - but if moneys tight and i've gone out of my way to pre-order the game to get the best deal I would not be happy not to get it when everyone else has it

(and for Halo or any other big multiplayer game hitting the guide button and seeing *everyone* on your friends list playing it only to realise you have to wait is not a good feeling)

How am I reasonably likely to get a game tomorrow in Hull that as posted from fucking Guernsey today, second class? As for being forseeable, they only indicated that it takes 3-5 working days once they'd taken my money. That's why it's a piss-take, not that the game might not arrive on time. I'm broke enough that I have to accept the risk, but I'm also entitled to express my disappointment about that. Having smartarses come in wearing their captain hindsight costumes is really not pleasant at this point. I fucking love Halo and have been looking forward to this for months. You can see from my other threads, or from how much time I've been sinking into Halo reach this last week, to be match-sharp. But with my finances as they are - facing my part time hours being cut in a job I've only just got with a council who cut the funding for the last five posts I've held in this part of the world (which I had no choice but to move back to because family and friends were dying) I can't afford to spend an extra tenner which is my travel budget for the week, or the ability to visit my widowed mother, if I can at all help it. It doesn't mean I am any less desperate to get my hands on the game or any less disappointed that Sainsbury's are saying one thing and doing another.

It might not be a big deal to you, but with my life the way it is presently, it's a fucking big deal to me.

As it stands, I might try to borrow some money from someone to get this sorted tomorrow, but to be honest the excitement of release day has rather been soured already. I LOVE Halo release day, chatting to strangers as we discover the game together. This is shaping up like the Football Manager DRM debacle of 2008.

I'd say the chances of it arriving on time are fair to good. Either way, it's not something to be upset about until tomorrow.

If it doesn't turn up, buy another copy and return the Sainsbury's one (to the shop you bought the second copy from) when it arrives.

Hmm. That could work. Be a bit immoral dicking the second shop around though... and we don't know what condition the Sainsbury's one will arrive in.

I reckon I should be allowed to wander into a Sainsbury's branch and pick up a copy free then return the one they are sending out, but apparently Sainsbury's Entertainment is some shithouse service they rebadged a couple of years ago and has nothing to do with the actual company. It's like getting an O2 phone online then taking it into a shop for assistance. They don't want to know.

Come on, guys, be a bit more temperate in your responses [to each other]

This:

Quote:
Halo 4 release day Tuesday 6th Nov
BLOPS2 release day Tuesday 13th Nov
Hitman Absolution release day Tuesday 20th Nov

is a bloody good month for games though. There's enough play time to take you into the new year and beyond!

Not wanting to rub it in or anything but my wife has just text me to say that there's 4 parcels waiting for me at home.

I reckon one could be Halo 4.

Sorry.

:this: 2nd class is treated the same as 1st class so long as they've the time to handle it, otherwise it has to go out the next day (& can't be delayed any longer). It was apparently dispatched around 10AM & Tuesday is the quietest day of the week as far as delivery goes so...

Worst case scenario is that it arrives on Wednesday, but it's more likely to arrive the morra.

Worst case scenario is that the Postie leaves it near the bins and a Manx cat does a runny shite all over it.

On Thursday.

We send out mail second class from my employer. It usually takes about a week and a half to get to our customers, apparently.

If it doesn't arrive today, Argos have it for £35.

If you can get to an HMV and have the O2 Priority Moments app, you can get it for £31.

Come to think of it I've been waiting a day for the response email the guy on the phone promised me. That's not coming at all, is it?

Not unless it's a second-class email.

Phone again and shout.

No, as apparently the post may come as late as half past two today.
