Yesterday, I bought an Arcade Action II.

Image

A clone console of sorts, this looks like the N64 (but smaller and a bit nicer looking), and contains a '101 games' cartridge. HOWEVER, I'm fairly sure it's either a C64 or an Apple II, due to the list of games, which includes these few:

1942, Arkanoid, Bird Week, Dig Dug, Elevator Action, Galaga, Galaxians, Gradius(!), Hyper Olympics, Joust, Karateka*, Kage (Legend Of?), Lode Runner 1 & 2, Macross(!?), Millipede, Pac Land(!), Star Gate, Spy VS Spy, Twin Bee(??!!), Goonies, Xevious

There are 101 listed, these are just the titles that I recognize. It cost me just £15 from a market stall. It comes with two comfortable, micro-switched joysticks and a really comfortable, responsive light gun. It has a SCART cable for output. It has a UK website listed (http://www.bargains.uk.com), but the power plug is two-pin. Weird.

Looking forward to trying this out a bit later. The Ashens Formerly Known As Dr. A should really get one of these, though it may upset his curve by appearing to be really a bit good, perhaps; without trying the thing, I recommend you get one if you see it similarly cheap!

*The presence of Karateka is what makes me think it might 'be' a C64 or AII, y'see.

It's almost certainly NES games from the list you've provided. Macross is also known as Robotech and will be a Gradius-style shooter, while the legendary TwinBee is based on Xevious.

Aha, you might well indeed be right, yus. I've just Googled Kareteka and there's a NES game also, which I didn't realise. I think it's a NES clone then, as it does have a cartridge slot (wherein the 101 Games Cartridge doth insert) - I shall have to buy a couple of super-duper-cheapie NES games off eBay to see. That's good too though, I've never had a NES of any kind, even a clone :)

edit: Added a link to a site that's selling them for £15.99, if anyone's interested in getting what appears to be a NES clone with an '101 in 1' cartridge on the cheap.

Whoever wrote the descriptions on that VIA TV page needs some sort of medal. Not only do they manage to make it sound completely shit, but they resort to repeating themselves a few times.

The unit comes with 2 controllers and also a shooting gun so you can be really interactive !!

As opposed to just sitting there and staring at the screen?
"2 controllers" and "Light Gun" are also worthy of two separate bulletpoints later on.

£15 + £8 delivery + VAT 8)

For what it's worth, you can get them a few quid cheaper on eBay.

With some of the famicom clone (or famiclone if you prefer) you'll find that the cartridge slot will take other famicom cartridges which comes in handy if, er, you have some of those. I've got one of these which is backlit (screen isn't overly sharp but it was cheap) and with an adaptor, can run NES games too. Although it becomes a little less portable.

Look at how cheap they are! If only I knew another 2999 people to buy them with!

It's so when some behooded ruffian demands your cards from you with menaces, you can make to hand it over, then cut them open like a tin of beans. Slish!

Or it's for coke fiends.

I wasn't - that's why I wasn't going to dignify it with a response, silly. ;)
