I have a Sony E-reader. Technically, the missus has it as I dropped it like a hot turd when the Kindle arrived.

I enjoyed it until I knew better. :) Wish the Kindle was brushed aluminium though. Mmmmm.... cold :)

That took 24 characters to type. amazon.co.uk/kindle is only 19. I'm just sayin' ;)

Also, no.

Ok correct question then, when is it going to be out in the uk?

They haven't given a date as yet but if it's anything like the Fire then it'll be ages.

The Fire was a full year, but it was a special case. The lag on the last lot of e-ink Kindles was six months, which I think will be more typical.

FEEX. The Fire that they released in the US (which I have) is now obsolete, and will never be released in any other countries. And I'll never get onto the Amazon app store with it.

PAH.

Are you sure.. I always get Easter and Christmas confused.

Christmas is the holiday with the eggs, right?

There's an e-book humble bundle out.

Quote:
Humble eBook Bundle features eight masterful works from a prodigious league of award-winning authors. Name your price and receive Pirate Cinema, Pump Six and Other Stories, Zoo City, Invasion: The Secret World Chronicle, Stranger Things Happen, and Magic for Beginners. Customers who beat the average will also receive Old Man's War and the graphic novel Signal to Noise!

Worth a punt for $1.

Hmm. Books are too much of a time and brain investment to punt on, for me. All the time I spend taking a chance reading whatever bollocks some guy has written could be spent reading a certified classic. And there are a lot of classics I haven't read!

Black Library are missing a trick by not doing something similar. A selection of first volumes of their many serieses's' ies at a discount price would bring the pennies in something rotten.

Worth five times that for 'Pump Six' on its own (probably... not read it yet but it is on my list as he's one of my absolute favourite authors).

Plus 'Zoo City' won the Arthur C Clarke and is good.

I also ordered the Macheist bundle yesterday for $29, to get Scrivener and Evernote Premium. (plus a fair few other things which may come in handy)

Is that what you call your penis?

The Kindle is so much the best piece of technology that's ever existed that I can't think of a single reason why you'd buy anything else if you were after a reader.

Doc - how do you find the Kindle Paperwhite screens? Amazon seems to have a fair number of reviews complaining about colouration, shadows and sparkles.

Which I only read this morning. After ordering one. And the charger and case arriving at work. But not the Kindle, because due to demand (and hopefully not returns) it's not shipping til the middle of December.

The only downside that bothered me is the slight shadowing/splotching across the bottom quarter-inch or so of the screen. It's a little distracting. It's nowhere near as uneven as the light cast by the Lighted Case's arm-mounted LED though.

Other than that, I love it to bits. Compared to my third-gen Kindle, it's faster, sharper, much smaller, lighter, has a nicer UI for selecting books (it shows covers now), and I love the touchscreen interface (particularly the rough, paper-like texture).

Cheers; both Hel and I think the text was too low-resolution and the grey was wrong in previous models; Paperwhite sounds like it fixes it for me so we'll see how it goes down with her (she's travelling loads in her new job). The estimated ship date is anus-clenchingly close to Christmas though.

I was surprised with a Kindle Paperwhite today! Came home and Mrs WTB had bought me one!

It's pretty awesome so far. X-Ray is such a bloody cool feature. Love the touch interface - makes a lot of things easier. Haven't tested the lit screen in the dark just yet, but it seems fine with the light on.

Oh, and "Time left in chapter/book" is a genius idea.
