Real life's like Call of Duty, innit. If one of our brave boys gets killed he just respawns 30 seconds later to mow down more waves of rageds innit.

Uh oh. Typical.

"Should I take a coat to Baltimore?"
"No, it'll be fine, it's like 20 odd degrees there"
"Oh, OK"
"Have a good trip in the warm..."

"Hurricane Sandy is going to hit me. You idiot"

EDIT: Oh. my.

Quote:
Forecasters warned that Sandy would probably mix with a winter storm to create a monster storm in the eastern US next week whose effects will be felt along the entire Atlantic Coast from Florida to Maine and inland to Ohio.

We had a Physics teacher that used to say, "That's your pidgeon".

He was also sent down for being a nonce.

Saviour and host to a rag-tag gang of internet freaks, Hawkman lookalike Matthew enjoys running expensive cable around his home, eatting pizza in the nude and having his cock sucked while on xbox live with his friends.

Oogh.

This is an interesting one. Basically it's probably going to be another Hurricane Irene, but with weaker winds spread over a longer period of time, higher rainfall but on a drier, less satuated area and with quite a significant storm surge.

Weather-Beexers may remember Irene for her noisy rampage through Vermont, New York State and the rest of the North Eastern seaboard. The impact was a multi-billion disaster (which to be honest appears to be most things that hit the US nowadays) and destroyed many covered bridges which I dearly loved, and made the leaf coverage during the fall slightly rubbish for my visit there.

So, what can we divine from this one? Well, a lot of travel disruption and some coastal damage probably but I'd be surprised if it causes much in the way of property damage. The slosh models (the excellently named computer system for computing storm surge) gives the height of between three and six feet, which doesn't sound like much but it will be coming in on a high lunar tide. This is causing concern as it may overtop Battery Park and flood the NY subway system. Also, some of the rainfall predicted is once in a hundred year stuff, higher in volume even than Irene's massive drenching.

I'm pretty sanguine on this one however. Slosh models are usually pretty accurate but I feel they are always a little more alarmist than they actually are in reality. I never forgot that the Galveston hurricane predicted storm surge mega doom but was merely pretty bad compared to really bad. Not that I argue against this, it's always imperative to run from the water with a category two or over. This storm shouldn't even match a weak category one in wind power, but it does have the potential to match a strong cat. one in storm surge. Yet even that should only affect the immediate inland area.

It'll suck to be travelling then though, Mali. Bad luck.

Track this one through the excellent Weather Underground website with Dr Jeff Master's on the ball blog:

http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMa ... rynum=2275

May revise opinions as new info comes in, obv.

I thought that might tempt you. Worse case is she doesn't fly until it passes. I told her to recon the area and make a mental list of the best shops to loot.

Yup, in this situation the only lure surer of bringing another infrequent poster out of the woodwork would be, "Hurricane predicted to hit Blakes 7 convention."

Helen's out for dinner with a friend, so I have the house to myself for who knows how many hours, and all I have to do tomorrow is go to the Great Northern Beer Festival. I have beer. I have a credit card and several websites full of takeaway I could order. I have games. I have movies.

So far I've made pizza dough, sauce and garlic butter, and bought a Windows 8 upgrade which I can't even be arsed installing.

Yay?

MailA,to be honest, anybody who said not to pack at least something warm for Baltimore in November was leading you up the garden path a little. Even without the hurricane, we're getting into winter season...

This short exchange in the House of Commons yesterday about the burial place of Richard III is too bizaare to go unremarked:

Sample:
Tony Baldry MP wrote:
I am afraid to say that the head of Charles, king and martyr, is still separated from his body, but they are both at St George’s, Windsor. The only one still missing is Henry I, who seems to have got lost somewhere in Reading after the dissolution of the monasteries. I can account for all the other kings and queens being properly and Christianly buried.

Worth reading the whole thing, if only for how wonderfully odd the discussion is.

Thanks. Yeah, MrsA was telling me what the temperature was and things and I was doing much more important stuff, so told her to take a light jacket and it would all be fine. She's currently at the White House. According to the prophecy.

Holy shit! MrsA has just shown me what she got from the White House! To cut a story short: Mitt Romney T shirts were half price. And bumper stickers. And breath mints.

Hate to say this Curiosity, but I think it may. However insurance companies over there may be able to wiggle out of damage claims since it technically won't be a hurricane when it hits.

As for MaliA, well here's the latest advisory RE: Baltimore...

Quote:
FLOODING FROM HEAVY RAIN: A FLOOD WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE
DC-BALTIMORE CORRIDOR WEST TO FREDERICK COUNTY MARYLAND FROM
SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY. THE AMOUNT OF RAINFALL WILL DEPEND
ON THE TRACK OF THE STORM. RISES ON RIVERS COULD CONTINUE FLOODING
POTENTIALLY WEDNESDAY INTO FRIDAY.

DAMAGING WINDS: IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE HEAVY RAINFALL...STRONG
WINDS ARE EXPECTED SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY. THESE WINDS WILL
LIKELY RESULT IN DOWNED TREES AND POWER LINES. AT THIS TIME...THE
MOST LIKELY TIME FOR TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS APPEARS TO BE LATE
MONDAY INTO TUESDAY.

COASTAL FLOODING: PROLONGED EASTERLY FLOW AND A FULL MOON ARE
EXPECTED TO PRODUCE MINOR COASTAL FLOODING THIS WEEKEND.

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES ARE IN EFFECT OVER THE TIDAL POTOMAC RIVER
AND MARYLAND CHESAPEAKE BAY SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. A GALE
WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR SUNDAY FOR PORTIONS OF THE WATERS. GALE
OR STORM WARNINGS MAY BE NECESSARY SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY.

CONTINUE TO MONITOR NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER PRODUCTS FOR
UPDATES ON THE TRACK OF SANDY.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT EXPECTED TODAY. ACTIVATION MAY BE NEEDED IF
SANDY APPROACHES THE AREA SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.

Apologies for caps. National Weather Service alerts are always in capital letters. It's more exciting that way. Is she doing any Wire tours, btw?

I walked into Shipley earlier to buy some curtain hooks. On commercial street there is a second hand shop (big sign:"We do not buy stolen goods") which often has bikes for sale. I didn't get that far as someone came out of the shop next door. I was able to see in. In a terrarium, by the door, was the biggest snake I've ever seen. It was almost as wide a a 2 litre coke bottle and was white in color. Must have been about 15 feet long. Crazy. That must cost a fortune to feed and heat.

We won't dodge stuff on classifications as we're a Lloyd's syndicate, and as such don't do that shit.

Our American parent company may dodge stuff though. But we have, if not integrity, then a reputation to uphold.

They figured the reputation was too good and needed tarnishing.

Likewise. I find the individual issues don't survive for very long before the cover begins to separate from the pages.

I went to Guiseley and bought some light bulbs for the Ka and then went to Morrisons. After that I went to fannys and had a 7.4% beer. And then some others.

As for myself got back to Baku late Saturday night / Sunday morning and spent most of the next day in bed. Arrived back in the office to find out that most people had no idea I was expected today. That and the guy I nominally work for is still in the States and expected back tomorrow (yeah right).

I've managed to do some washing and it has all come out being slightly blue. This isn't a good thing.

I find him riotously entertaining.

He is, however, far more concerned with self promotion than actually running anything, and has extremely odious political views. If we don't think the Tory government is doing enough to alienate people, and needs to be far more supportive of the rich and far more scathing of the poor, then get Boris in as PM.

It's sad that he'd probably get elected by people who have no idea what he stands for :(

And he should be elected as the President of the USA. At the same time.
