Some pedants would say that it is actually saturday (and I would surely agree). I have just broken the left leg of this keyboard trying to kill a moth. As a result of this I am typing at a less than optimum angle.

However, earlier today I was told that on or around the 17th of December I will very likely become the father of my first daughter.

For those that don't know I have 3 sons already, and within the last 2 months both my parents have died. My feelings at the moment are somewhat confused. For those of you who are good at maths, they will realise that my partner was pregnant when both my mum and dad were alive, however, neither of them knew I was to be a father for the 4th time. I decided to wait before telling them. And now they will never know.

Now they will never know. But you guys do.

I always thought I'd have a daughter, I thought my first child would be a girl. I was certain of it. Ever since I was about 12. And now 21 years later, I have been proven correct (we'll ignore for now that I was wrong 3 times before).

It feels a might strange to say this, and I'd never have thought this before, but having your family made smaller, and then making it larger again seems right.

Please forgive the wishy washyness of this post, it's the emotion, sentimentality and beer talking (I suspect mostly the beer).

I was pretty sure I was mad before, now I think I must be insane. If not, then I'm sure next year will bring it on. In heaps and bounds.

Malc

I have had a beer or two aswell.

Wow OK. My first thoughts go to the tough time you have had. However I don't think many people could argue that you are wrong to look to the future and place a special part of your existance to a future life. I honestly think your parents would be proud of the way you see things. Hmm as I type this it sounds a bit bloody wishy washy but surely the future is the important thing. Tell the new spinglo how great it's ancestors were.

Erm I'll go away now.

I've been thinking of you Malc, I didn't notice the last thread till late in it's life, and then didn't want to bump it, so I'm really glad things are starting to look up.

So yeah, commiseration's and congratulations - circle of life and all that.

(Oh, and I'm stuck. Sober. At my desk. In my office. At work. On a Friday. For another 3 hours or so. Bah.)

Hug to you fella. I don't want to start singing bad Tim Rice songs but yeah, what Lave said. I hope you and your kids have a happy life and that your children pass on your stories of your grandparents. Also that your spared any hangover tomorrow.

You now have the minimum grouping for Narnia quests. One more and you've got an Enid Blyton posse.

I don't really do hangovers. I don't believe in them. And anyone who's played populous will know that if you have no believers, then you cannot exist.

Again it seems it is drunk night for I am joining you all, as in whoever is online. Sorry if I'm rude for whatever reason, Im sure it was a mishap rather than intentional but Ill try and talk anyway.

I must say although you have had very bad times and that does seem an understatement, especially since I dont think I have been anyway been sympathetic in them times, which I must apologise but it is quite uncomfortable connecting across a faceless internet. I have been rewriting what I wanted to say over and over and it has been a struggle to find the words but really all I can say is that a child is a gift. Im saying this as a quite young uncle who loves my nephew and nieces (which is barely a comparison in this case) but to compare the two incidents would be unforunate to the child itself if you thought of this time as unhappy when the child is born. And not to regret not telling your parents because I believe you did the right thing at a difficult time, I cant stress this enough more than anything, I am sure they would have been delighted with the news but I very much doubt it would have helped either parent at this time, as much as that was hard to write myself, I am sure you feel alot worse which I only have my sympathies.

On a positive conclusion the new child is a wonderful thing that I hope wont overshadow these unfortunate times, but rather your family living on.

Congratulations, Malc!

I think I win in the drunken stakes: I just woke up in my bed a few minutes ago and I don't remember getting there. I'd only had a few beers (including a full one sat in a glass by my TV), so I must've been very tired.

Thanks guys, I am up reasonably early this morning with no hangover to speak of. I will now commence moving funiture around our house. Again. (we are having carpets fitted, 1 room on thursday, 3 yesterday, and the last bedroom, with the landing on monday) It's amazing how much furniture moving that actually is! And it's going to be the hottest day of the year so far, or so I've heard.

Once again, thanks for all your good wishes.

Malc

Congratulations Malc, you deserve some good news.

I am no longer drunk, but slightly hungover. I will try again tonight.

Congrats, mate. If you've been planning this since you were 12, you must have a name in mind, right?
(Also - four? You nutbag! I having a hard enough time with one!)

No, no names yet, I might have some idea when I was 12, but, I've forgotten, and yeah, It's a bit crazy, but there will be 5 years between this one and the next youngest, and 10 between this one and the eldest, so they should be less trouble, or at least different trouble.

Congrats, Malc on your news of Mini-Spinglos - of, uh, the female variety!*

Speaking of drunkenness, last night I drank absinthe. Tonight, I shall try Jagermeister!
