And that’s the end of it. No Skyrim for the Windows Store, unless of course the developers go back and remove all the PEGI 18-rated content.

That’s 2011’s Game of the Year, banned from the Windows Store. How about 2012? With several highly anticipated games yet to be released, it’s anybody’s guess which game will be selected. But a random sampling of internet predictions suggests some of the leading contenders are Max Payne 3, The Witcher 2, Mass Effect 3, Assassins Creed 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Borderlands 2. Of the four of those that have already shipped and been rated by PEGI, how many could be shipped on Windows Store?

Zero.

I'd keep an eye on this, at the moment they're only mooting it for the Windows Store, it won't stop these games running via Steam or a disc or whatever, but as is pointed out above, Windows RT ONLY runs stuff bought from the store.

This also has implications for the XBox platform, so don't think this is just a PC thing, as it shows the direction Microsoft wants to go in.

Win8 RT wouldn't run these games anyway, unless they release an ARM version.

WinRT is closer to an iOS platform than it is to the full Win8.

Oh yes I realise that, it's the outright banning of PEGI-18 content from the Windows store that concerns me, even for folks running the full-fat version of Windows.

Add that onto the already restrictive Apple Store, and all of a sudden the target market for 'mature content' games is greatly reduced, if they try to extend this to the XBox Store (bearing in mind they are going to want to control the entire distribution channel sooner or later), then the implications aren't good.

I can't buy a chair anymore because Cats like playing with yarn.

Or in other words, two completely different things, don't connect them.

You can buy 18-rated titles in the Mac App Store. Example: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/grand-th ... 5622?mt=12

Are you saying that the Apple Store isn't restrictive?

I'm not saying nuffink. Although DocG makes a good point with his fact, there. In what way is it restrictive if it sells 18 stuff?

The Apple Store is Apple's high street shops. It's highly restrictive, selling only Apple products and those from a select number of partner suppliers.

Hmmm, maybe the App Store and Mac App Store are two different things or something, I dunno, I went Android a long time ago. Last I remember from the Apple App Store was they were dead strict on what was allowed.

Either way, my DAY OF ANGER is directed at Microsoft for the next 24 hours, then I'll move onto something else.

Probably film censorship, there's some mileage in that one.

You mean you're judging stuff without understanding it? Surely not.

There's 18-rated titles in the iOS App Store. Example: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/101-posi ... 17616?mt=8

The Apple appstore has changed in recent years, you can get the pokerstars official app and play poker for real moneys, this wasn't possible before, and neither were bookmaker apps.

That there are Day 1 restrictions on Windows 8 RT, that relax significantly by Day X would not surprise me at all.

Fine, I'm out of touch with the Apple Store, I'll flagellate myself immediately for this abhorrent behaviour.

Anyway, the Apple Store was just an aside, the thrust of my point was Microsoft and their behaviour with regards to the Windows 8 store.
