Welcome to PicturePerfect campaign, supported by movie directors, TV manufacturers, The Gadget Show and top standards specialists. Recently reported on by the BBC and the Daily Telegraph and a host of leading media outlets. Let's start with a question.

When you purchased your TV, did you set it up correctly?
Just over half (51%) of us Britons haven't set our TV pictures up at all!

However, TVs rarely look their best without setting up the picture.

So when you consider that Britons spend on average over 3 hours (192 minutes) a day watching TV, we think it's worth spending a little time getting our TVs looking as good as possible.

Especially when it needs no special skills or equipment and the instructions are all freely available right here at http://www.MyPerfectPicture.tv.

I set my picture setting to an optimum configuration I saw on an AV forum as soon as it was out of the box. :nerd:

I think I have my TV set up alright but I only ever play games on it so I'm not really sure. Thinking about it, the blacks aren't quite black enough for my liking so maybe I need some help?

Last year I bough a 2nd hand 60 inch Pioneer Kuro plasma

Its supports LSF Calibration from people like this.

http://www.greyscalesolutions.com/

Not cheap £300 for the day, the guy also told me that I should have all the devices I want in place as he would do the calibration on each device\input

Also the wife refuses to let me do it, she was not keen that I bought the bigger screen in the first place.

Google your TV's Make and model number and "Optimum settings" into Google (how are those eggs tasting?) and it should come up with the info. I got mine from an http://www.avforums.com thread.

Is that a fairly new set? Didn't find anything on that model myself.

Aye, me too. And it made a world of difference from the over-bright, over-saturated factory settings.

Yes. The reason we got it. Only out this year.

Keep checking the site and some tedious nerd AV expert will put up a detailed setting list sooner or later.

Surely optimum TV settings depends on the room it is in as well. One optimum setting in one room would be not so optimum for the next, no? Or are these more guidelines?

They're the optimum settings for an average room I guess.

You need to search for "TV is surrounded by scented candles and freshly plumped cushions settings".

They're generally set up for near-darkness, which is how TV Should Be Watched. On my TV, I have two presets: Standard (which has some horrible dynamic brightness post-processing stuff and a really high backlight setting), which we use in bright daylight. And Movie, which is much dimmer, more yellow, and has a number of the post-processing filters turned off, which we use whenever we can.
