New iTunes is the shocker. I wonder if this is a proper new iTunes, one that isn't shit?

We live in hope. I've seen scuttlebutt on Twitter from "sources" that it's a stripped-down, broken-out version.

Surely every iOS release has come with a 'new' iTunes?

They've come with a new version of the current iTunes. I'm reading this (and hoping) as a whole new iTunes.

Apple wouldn't normally put out a press release for a new iTunes (IIRC), so there's some reason to hope that this is accurate.

I'd rather have it back, to be honest.

Not seeing anything that's making me want this over a 4S yet. The adaptor for the new conneector is hellishly big and ugly.

I'm not sure it's convincing enough to even upgrade my 4. Longer screen is nice I guess, but the 4 is still shit-hot fast. Unlike my 3G which had conveniently slowed to a crawl by the time the 4 came along.

I thought they mainly played catch-up on both the hardware and software. Nothing really excited me :(

Is there anything that possibly could excite right now? I honestly want for nothing more from my 4. Maybe in another year or so 4G will be that thing, or something else. But right now, my 4 is absolutely fine. It's still brilliant in fact. I couldn't live without it.

They made the mistake of making something too good, perhaps.

Patiently waiting for the 4S to have a nice price cut. Hopefully before my HTC Desire stops working completely. I already haven't bought an app for it in over a year, every fortnight I struggle to free up space and get rid of the endless warning messages.

Might the delayed iTunes be timed to coincide with an October launch for a smaller iPad?

Oh, behave. I still want an android phone, there's just not a tangible option relative to the 4s in terms of functionality (music production and games, specifically Llamasoft), while I need to buy on contract because I'm skint, and only Apple seem to prevent carriers loading a ton of fucking shit on their phones.

Question - does jail breaking enable tethering?

We must be using our phones in different ways. My 4 is definitely sluggish, and Danielle complains of the same. Apps are getting bigger and pushing the limited RAM harder and harder.

If you're right and there's only £100 difference then it's a no-brainer; otherwise I'm going for the 4S.

I must admit, I haven't really explored any new apps or games (certainly not demanding ones) for the best part of year. So I haven't noticed. It does everything I want it to do, and it does it very quickly, as it always has.

I don't think I'll bother upgrading for now, my 4S is fine and the connector change is just a hassle.
I'll wait until Kate's 4 totally dies and change then, I expect.

Which is no great shakes though. I don't understand the fear of phone contracts that is so prevalent on this forum. Everyone seems to forget the part where you don't have to spend money on phone calls and text messages. No "top-ups", etc. 18 months is bugger all as well, especially on the "common sense" route of going for every second iPhone model.

:this:

Although I'll be looking at getting a sub £30 a month deal in November with no deposit on a 4S rather than the 5.

I pay £10 per month for unlimited texts, 500MB data and 3000 mins, which is plenty enough for me. But if I decide I want to change in 12 months time, I have that flexibility.
