As others have said, fuck the irresponsible owners - they obviously don't see the cat as anything other than a piece of property to be chucked outside and neglected.

Not so sure about involving the RSPCA in this either (if it was being considered) as they don't seem to have a clue these days.

WTB, you've done an excellent job treating and caring for this cat. You should be proud of yourself. :)

Hilarious development in the cat saga tonight. (We're still secretly looking after her.)

Was watching telly and there was constant miaowing coming from the back door. Like, loud and constant. I thought she'd hurt herself or something so we rushed to the back door. Turns out the cat had brought us a present. A large block of cheese! What the hell?

We let her in for a bit and she stopped miaowing. Then she ate the bloody cheese...

Absolutely no idea where she got the cheese from.

If she's bringing you presents, she's well and truly adopted you you know.

As Dimrill says, you have now been adopted by the cat - you are now wholly owner by her. :)

What type of cheese was it? Can you ask the cat to fetch some more? ;)

I've never heard of anything so bizarre, still it makes a welcome change as they generally treat you to a half-dead mouse or something.

I'm sure there was a BBC News story of someone's cat who kept bringing them cheese or something. Literally a wedge a day. They couldn't figure out where it was coming from.

The cat, for starters. You may have some little kid's pet.

You're being trained, your cat now thinks you're grown up enough to catch live prey.

I am! I'm fucking shit hot at it. Three caught by hand, two caught by humane traps with chocolate and cheese.

Probably a mouse's stash. Have you checked your skirting boards for huge semi-circular holes?

No more cheese recently, and she went missing for a week or so when it was raining constantly. I guess she stayed at home. She has been visiting again every day since it dried up though, and she's as friendly as ever. She weighs a lot more now as well and is looking like a normal healthy cat. I was just stroking her an hour or so ago and it became apparent that she's been shampooed. She's all soft and clean now. Seems really happy.

I guess we spurred the owners into action. Glad she still seems to prefer us, though! She spends most of the day on our kitchen window ledge!

Feed her bits of cooked chicken etc and she will soon jump ship!

My parents had a cat that found another home and never came back for 3 months, I still hadn't come back when they moved house

I've noticed that when I feed my cat chicken after a roast she loves it, for a few days after she is fussy over the cat food and looks at me hoping to get more chicken!

Our cats are the same but for thin sliced ham which they both go batshit crazy for. Weirdly, the other thing that drives them into a frenzy is Quorn fake cooked meat (this kind of thing). Either the Quorn guys are doing an amazing job of replicating the smell of cooked meat or our cats are just so fucking stupid that anything the same shape as what they like will be equally appreciated. The latter there is by far the most likely option.

They shampooed a cat?

That's utterly crazy or incredibly brave I can't decide which.

If the alternative was cat food, wouldn't you?

Well, it looks (and smells) like someones vomed all over a plate. No wonder the cat never ate any if it lives up to its name.

The last cat my parents had, was very sharp, after they fed her scraps from the roast chicken she started to understand that when they took a uncooked bird out of the freezer that it meant cooked chicken for her as some point. So she would go nuts the minute they got the chicken out to defrost it.

With the new cat they have changed things so stop this one doing the same thing

She would also know just by the fact something was out of place in my mum’s room that they were going away and that meant some time in a cattery. So she would run outside and be a pain in the arse hiding under the car and generally making herself hard to catch
