Start my new job on Monday. They've invited me out for lunch today to meet the rest of the team before I start. God I've missed working for small, actually human companies.

At the office mid-summer party the other week I made a food related error (didn't eat any) and subsequently got a little bit fucked out of my brain.

A new starter came that was starting with us the following week. I shook his hand and he moved on then quite loudly because drunk me has no volume control said as he walked off "Don't like him - good looking bastard"

I'm nothing if not professional.

This should be in the Yay thread.

Nice one dude. The 9 months I spent working for my local newspaper was horrible compared to this job - there I was just a number on some beancounter's payroll spreadsheet.

Interesting times!

After 2 shit days, I got through the gate at catania to find my flight.to Dusseldorf delayed by 2 hours.

Not only do I miss my connection to mcr, the EU night flight rules mean there are no more flights tonight.

There are no direct flights tomorrow either.

Luckily, Helen (who works for a legally distinct entity) has got me the last room at the hotel I used the other night and a flight to brum at 7.10 in the morning. Way to go, company I work for.

Of course, if I'd paid the six quid per flight extra for insurance against this sort of thing instead of minimising upfront costs as dictated, this wouldn't be costing them another 250 quid.

Still, my direct task assignment from my boss is 'drink beer', so its not all bad.

I reserve my postings in that thread for better stuff. Maybe.

Yep, that’s exactly how my old place felt. Morale there is at an all-time low at the moment, and upper management are panicking as people are constantly leaving. Looks like I got out at the right time.

Lunch was good. I’m the baby of the team again. And then they just handed me a new MacBook Pro to take home with me, and the keys to the office. Haven’t even started there yet :s Everything feels right about it, though, but the risks are potentially high with it being a VC-funded startup.

I don't suppose anyone's got a boxed copy of Speedball 2 on the Amiga they could scan for me? I desire a canvas print of it.

Trailer for Gunhound EX (PSP).

Nice souped-up version of a great Assault Suits knockoff, originally for the PC.

So,

Last Tuesday (the 21st) I went to the doctors about my knee. They told me to have an X-Ray.

So, on Monday (the 27th) I went to the hospital and had it done.

Today, the doctor phone my wife to tell me that I need more scans and possible some sort of fracture!

Which I guess is a good thing as it means they might be able to fix it!

Need to phone him back on Monday!

Malc

Last night we went to Wolverhampton Horse racing. Got a free £1 bet but decided to put £1 on each of the other six races. Put bets on to win. Only won one, but that £10 means I walked away with £4 more than I went in with, so a good night. Russell also won one race, but I think at £3.25. One of our colleagues win £168 in the final race, but I think she was betting quite big throughout, so how much she came out on top I'm not sure.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I'd love a MacBook Pro, let alone a free one. And it was all because of Nintendo's Virtual Console? Love that; it's unfairly maligned.

I've had a good/busy week. On top of the usual work and gym, I spent my evenings writing a review of the two-hour new Swans album. I got it finished at about 1am Friday morning. I get the weekend to listen to listen to the new Neurosis album before I interview (one of) them on Monday after work.

That will clearly go in the yay thread if it works out.

I told the boys to stop their xbox game before so they could tidy up, they'd been out all night and the first thing they did when they got home was switch it on. In the midst of socks, shoes, cereal bowls, chocolate wrappers, Lego etc. all over the floor/sofa. You'd think I'd just told them to turn off a computer so I could flay them and roll them in salt before they'd had a chance to save their lifes-work, the way they carried on. Five minutes later it was done and I'd hoovered. Ten minutes after that, I'd made their lunch and they came running in to get it as soon as I called them.

I've fucked myself here really, haven't I? They're such... Men. Damnit.

Why do Apple offer to back up my iPhone to iCloud, and then email me to say I've filled the 5GB allowance?

Of course I bloody have; it's a 30-odd GB phone!
