EDIT: OK, this is happening. Please can anyone who wants to take part please PM me their address by midday on Monday 3rd September, and I'll assign partners that afternoon.

_________________________________________________

I was wondering if there would be any interest in taking part in what I would call ‘The Great £5 eBay Challenge’?
Here’s my idea. There’s a bit of a lull between summer and the cottage in October, followed by Christmas, and I wondered if folks wanted to do something inexpensive and fun?

My idea is that we have a challenge where anyone who decides to take part would be given another participating forumite to find and send a gift to from eBay for the grand sum of up to £5. There is no great ‘exploring what your partner might like’ to worry about – we all kind of know each other here, and something fun, inexpensive and interesting will suffice.
It will be a quick challenge, with the gift needing to be bought and paid for one week after the names go out. Obviously you can have the seller send directly to the recipient, so there should be no worries about additional time/cost needed to go to the Post Office.

FAQ ( Guessed at – as if any questions have been asked)

Will it be like a secret Santa? Not really, mostly because the partners won’t be a secret (for ease of a quick and easy to organise activity, so we can chase any lost packages up).

Does the £5 include shipping? I’m leaving this totally up to the discretion of the buyer. The point is, nobody should feel obliged to spend more than £5.

What if I don’t win the thing I am bidding on? If you want to use auctions to bid on an item that’s fine, though I guess a lot of people will use Buy It Now items. What I will say is that you should have a couple of BIN options in case the thing you are bidding for falls through/goes above expected price.
OK, just gauging interest. I thought it would be a fun little thing to do to raise a smile at BEEX.

Oh, and I was thinking if folks were interested I would organise the names next Monday to be purchased by the following Monday. Really looking for something quick and fun.

I'll play, but remember to always check with the seller, some will only send to the PayPal address.

You want to use Amazon for an eBay challenge? :P

I don't have a problem with it, but I wanted something distinct from Secret Santa. Any string feelings on this from anyone else?

Maybe The Great eBay Challenge is not for you, then? Unless you want to make an exception for this, of course.

I know I have a few folk's addresses already from other things, but even if I already have your address, if you want to take part please can you re-send me your address a) in case I have lost it (likely) and b) because it gives me a definitive 'in' from you (for this reason I have even got Mr Russell to send me his address, so that I don't forget to count him in hen organising partners.

Cheers, m'dears.

It's ordered, though!

Due to the unique way in which The Great £5 eBay Challenge is funded, one random person will be receiving 2 gifts.
Who will it be, I wonder? And what amazing gifts will they receive?

I received a purple rubber package. There was no middle bit to tear open and it seemed to be heat sealed at both ends.

I convinced myself it would be okay to snip it open at one end, and found some blue tissue paper inside.
