Gotta say I'm surprised the last word there was 'telly'.

Explain, then!

I was under the impression that "to be" is "was" for "I, it, he, and she", and "were" is reserved for "you, they and we". Obviously this is a negative "to be" sentence, but the rules still apply with "not" after "was".

Edit: Are you talking about using "were" when you're talking about something that isn't true? If so, that's wrong as well because Zardoz is a graphic designer. ALTHOUGH! Are we getting proper deep into this because he isn't a working class designer? If so, well played.

(Technically we are both right until someone can prove whether or not he's working class.)

It's a past subjunctive, so it is 'were', not 'was'.

I didn't hear my first subjective until I was 21. And even then we had to share it.

Basically, the use of the word "if" pushes it towards the subjunctive tense. There are probably some exceptions, but I'm not here to correct the deficiencies in your education.

Apple do seem to be the bad guys here if you listen to groklaw*, and they seemed to have had it right for previous things like SCO. Though I do question why so much stuff that The Register (and presumably elsewhere) publishes is entirely missing from their coverage, even from an argumentative standpoint.

Not to say that Samsung's approach of "different-enough icons to maybe not be derivative works" isn't stupid.

* Going to the press while complaining - inaccurately - about Samsung going to the press. Wanting a ludicrous $40 per handset for its patents and complaining Samsung wouldn't pay, while not having paid Samsung (or Motorola it appears) a penny for their much more fundamental ones.

When Google bought Motorola, it was pretty well understood that what they were buying was a FUCKING MASSIVE patent portfolio. It's no real surprise that they've decided that this is the time to wheel it out and start getting their hands dirty. It was always coming, and Apple seems to be a sensible target.

There's no button on the normal site. However, it's not rocket science. Hit PM, change the recipient to 'beex weeker' and the subject to POTW.

I love the Guardian and their useless subs:

"Fish demand exceeds UK's sea supply"

So, the fish want more water than is in the sea?

Quote:
UK fish consumption in 2012 has already matched what our seas can supply for the year, leaving the country reliant on imported cod and haddock for fish and chips, campaigners have warned.

Annual fish supplies from UK seas can only satisfy demand for 233 days, so if the UK were to rely on its own fisheries for the year we would run out of stocks by today

Good god. If only the concept of buying fish from abroad existed, eh? Just like, ooh, everything else. First world country in 'net importer of food' shocker.

I just locked myself out of my flat. Had to cycle to my girlfriends work to get her key (about 5km away), in shorts and a jumper (it's raining) Ended up falling off my bike and landing on my elbows. Bikes are dangerous. Ouch.

Urgh. This morning, I got to work at 6:40, after getting home from V festival, having a shower and falling into a coma at about 23:50. Which brings the total amount of sleep I've had since Friday morning, to an amazing 16hrs. I left work at 5:40pm. I then forgot it's Grand Prix week. I am now stuck at Glen Helen until the roads open. Which is 9pm.

There aren't enough fucks in the world for me to direct towards my life right now. I want to scream. And I bet the cunting bikes aren't even on because it's soaking wet out there.

Did you see loads of people in hair rollers at the V Festival?

We were driving up the motorway and loads of V-festival goers were stopping off at the service station. About a third of all the girls that stopped in had rollers in their hair, and a couple were in pyjamas or those giant babygrow things, along with the ubiquitous wellies (the only part of their get up that made sense.

Russell took a picture of two of the girls, who also seemed to have Ronseal Quick Drying wood stained their faces to the colour of deep mahogany. Let me see if I can get the picture...

Had my hair cut by a pregnant teenager. £3.99. The back is awful. Probably shouldn't have called her "darlin'".

There were hundreds of them in Liverpool, and on the way up. I had to wonder what the point was... Especially as all it had done on Friday from about 11am, was rain, non-stop. I saw a couple on Saturday morning, too; that's pretty dedicated.

My friends said to me yesterday, "You're such a bitch, your hair just looks normal"... :/ So at least now I know 'normal' means 'unwashed for three days'.

A house empty of children is, like, #1 on my list of things that make me happy.
