The Evora might be based on the same platform, but it is night and day in terms of daily usability.

Yeah, these things matter I guess. At least the Boxster is a breeze to use and has really excellent storage capacity with "boots" both front and rear. (This always surprises the uninitiated with the inevitable "where the fook is the engine, then?" comments).

It's not by-wire steering, is it? That would terrify me.

That's somewhat different and (I suspect) they have a few backup systems in place.

You know I don't fly though, right?

I don't think so mate, or at least I hope not. I'm assuming there's still a rack and pinion mechanism in place.

I'm already beginning to doubt that it could be. I'm fairly sure that they're not legal in this country (same as by-wire brakes).

In that case, why is there no feedback?

[edit]It is normal steering. Phew! So what's dampening the feedback if it's just PAS?

Yeah, the motor absorbs some the vibration.

Yeah, the motor absorbs some the vibration.

My brain's struggling with that somewhat. Because of the added weight? Or because it 'pushes back'?

Because it's a motor that requires force to turn, particularly when it's actively trying to provide assistance. Not even it pushing back, though the computer probably does that too to hold the line (hopefully not much near straight, but in a corner yeah).

Though in the (EP3) Civic Type-R, apparently feeling could be vastly improved by putting some spacers under the rack, which put the arms at a much more horizontal angle, meaning there was more horizontal force into the rack and less going up/down into the chassis.

Oh, and usual caveat - vague awareness after reading a bit in the mists of time, with some measure of making shit up from first principles.

Not as surprised as I was. I never had any problem with it (I mean literally no problem, I watched the first episode of Lost on a plane and giggled my way though the crash at the beginning) until I was coming back from my honeymoon, and I was convinced I was going to die, and I've not set foot on one since.

I feel uncomfortable just looking at them in the sky, now :S

Oh sorry mate, I see now.
My missus is terrified of flying. At least you're scared of something rational. I can't stand the sight or sound of anyone throwing up, up to and including full-on phobia/terror. How fucking weird/stupid is that?

These things can be sorted though mate.

Nowhere near as fun as the MX-5, though. Why the change of heart?

Purely the lack of space, it can be a bit of an arseache sometimes even though we have another car. Also I've had it for a while now and I just fancy a change.

Re: flying

I got a massive mental block over it about a decade back. One day, a friend of mine decided he wanted to be a pilot and organised a test flight with an instructor. I was invited along. We rocked up to Enstone airfield and hung about a bit. Ten minutes later, the bloke arrived, looking quite how I would imagine him to. He had a Lego model which he used to show how planes fly. He showed us it. I was nervous. Then we got in the plane ( ford fiesta with wings), and it took 3 attempts to start. After we were up and going, and I'd managed to control my huge urge to get out, as this man was clearly a lunatic, rationsation set in.

He appeared about ten minutes later than the appointed time.
He had a Lego model to tell us how planes work.
He had a moustache.
At no point did we ask for accreditation.
The plane took a few attempts to start.

Then he told us he was going to set off all the alarms at once in the plane. and stuck it into a spiral dive.

The alarms went off. The plane levelled a few thousand feet lower than it was a few seconds before. I wasn't dead. It was awesome.

On the return, there was a bunch of people driving their open top ferrari's down half the runway. We buzzed one at about 12 feet on the way to a touch andgo around. It was awesome. Unless you were them, to suddenly have a small plane pass over head after being sat in your morror's bond spot for the length of the runways.

And that is how I now don't fear flyIng.

Will tidyup spelling later.

Sold to a user called "7er_profi7" so I suspect he'll be breaking it for parts - especially as from the sounds of his location and recent feedback, he's going to be flying over here from Berlin to collect it!

Interesting. Prices for premium german cars are much higher in Europe than they are here, so there is money in repairing left hookers by using cheap UK cars I suspect.

Sat outside a pub in Harrogate. There's a shitload of money rolling around here. Many classics, range rivers and so on. De-cated R8 was ABSURD, particularly because the roads are narrow and the buildings tall, and the roads all uphill.
