There's a nice little piece on Anor Londo in Edge this month. For those who never saw or will never see this place, you missed out.

The very first section of the game? The one you just have to run past?

To save Mali explaining the same thing for a third time, he's talking about the second encounter, where you actually have to kill it.

Mali, are you doing the lunging head stab from the drop at the start? That takes a fair bit of energy off his fat ass right from the outset, dunnit?

Quick check, as it is rather important: You are locking on to enemies in battle, as without that you're liable to miss.

I've been trying that without the lightweight armour and I get nailed by the first attack every single time. Does the armour make that much difference?

Yes. It's all about not getting blocked in on the ground.

You have to get up them stairs. Well, I did anyway.

Yeah, I noticed you condensed the trickest part (avoiding the first rush, getting around Capra and the dogs, and getting up the stairs) into 'run up stairs' in your really useful Capra guide there ;)

Just immediately aim for the left hand side of the room and dash for the stairs. Roll if you have to avoid an attack. And lighter armour makes a huge difference to your ability to move quickly and roll quickly!

You need the speed to make it by the dogs so unequip everything that's stopping you pelt around like a nutter.

It's surprising how much you can avoid at max speed. You can run circles around some of the slower enemies or just avoid 'em.

Plus it'll make the run back to Capra more manageable.

I wouldn't bother hitting him though when you've got him alone; if you've got soul arrows that is.

When I do this: o/

You do this: \o

The '/' represents an arm and the 'o' represents a noggin. It's what Earthlings call a 'High 5'.

Your 'o|o' looks like the start of the prison scene in Midnight Express.

Prepare For Awesome.

The DLC's now labelled Artorias of the Abyss.

5 new facts can be found here but lets ignore that two are about PC gaming, frame rates, Blightown etc for the purpose of this thread please. All you need to know are that there are three new areas to play and about 10 hours of gaming set 300 years before Dark Souls. I gather access to the new areas is through the main game itself and probably near the first hydra from what I've seen.

Also: SQUEEEE!

But does this picture show the area where the final fight takes place 300 years in the past? I love Dark Souls by the way.

This is now out for the PC, so I decided to buy it given it was supposed to be the best thing since chips.

It is however completely fucking unplayable. 'Straight port' couldn't be more accurate - no modification has been made to the interface to accommodate a normal keyboard, and all of the dialogs and prompts still refer to gamepad controls. All of the training level hints and tips therefore make no sense, and makes it practically impossible to control the character. Trying to navigate around the menus is extremely difficult and I resorted to pushing random buttons to see if I could divine how to do what I wanted.

Windows Live for Games is also utterly useless. The client update always fails so it won't allow me to do online play or remain logged in.

I think I'll be leaving this for about a year and then try again if any of these issues get sorted, and in the meantime I might need to reload Skyrim to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Avoid.

From what others have said, Dark Souls on PC is very much aimed at pad use, much as the console version.

That's what developers say when they can't be fucked to rework it for a proper PC gamer. The escape key does nothing, and to bring up the in-game menu you have to push the Insert and Home keys. Whose enlightened usability decision was that do you think?

Skyrim is about a zilly-million times better.

Oh yeah, not disagreeing. It's a port of a console game, 'making it run' was about as much effort as I think they've gone to.

Yeah, they'd already said that they'd never done anything like this before [read: dont know what they're doing] and it certainly wouldn't be optimised.

Brilliantly (apparently) it has no selectable resolution -- it's locked at 720p or some such. There's some unofficial patch to unlock the renderer out there somewhere.

I found and installed this, and it works a charm. Incredible that an amateur effort can fix a major issue less than a week after release. He's also included the ball-breakingly necessary functionality to turn off the fucking mouse cursor which appears during the game at all times.

Another slight problem - if you have dual monitors and click outside of the primary window by accident it'll minimise the game. USEFUL.

Windows key + P lets you quickly cycle through monitor options. "Duplicate" or "Computer only" might sort that out.

Things which an amateur can knock up in a few hours tends to cost considerably more when included as part of a release. Given this was always going to be low cost (due to not being budgeted and stuff), it's hardly surprising. And it's not like they weren't entirely clear about this months before release.

Hello! I am a standard computer user, who doesn't do a full background check on the publisher when purchasing games. If a game is £30 and is released on the PC, I expect it to be comensurately playable and decent for that price, and at the very least use basic PC controls.

If a game is a tenner on release and has its caveats advertised clearly on the purchasing page, then truly I have no cause to complain.

Gotta say, I'm with EBG on this. For one: why put any effort at all into a port, if it was as half-assed as this one? If there's no budget, don't do it at all. For two: people are paying actual money for this. Those people deserve better.

What you're getting is the same game that was on the xbox. Which was sufficiently popular to get thousands of pc gamers complaining that they weren't getting it.

Apparently getting the same game for less money isn't good enough.

I don't remember seeing an always-on stuck mouse cursor on the Xbox version. Nor did the Xbox version tutorial tell me to use WASD to move.
