My 8 year old step daughter uses Hama beads.

I think they're great, especially because they lend themselves so well to 8 but graphics and things like that, so we bought a huge tub from Ikea (top tip, Ikea sell 1kg tubs for either £3.99 or £4.99). We have some Pacman and Mario sprites in our hallway, too.

Those beads look ace! How do they work then? Do they stick together or do you stick them on a board?

You put them on a little peg board which gives you the correct spacing needed, cover the back with a piece if baking parchment/silicon paper (included) and then iron it for a few seconds to fuse them together.
