The walk in this morning wasn't so bad. Apart form the half mile with no pavement. I held my umbrella into the road a bit to get an extra foot or so of clearance from the cars. I got to listen to the Infinite monkey Cage, which was a good thing. it took 30minutes to do one and a half miles or so uphill, which isn't so bad. I think I'll be OK. I would cycle but I'm not allowed to use the "executive showers".

Helen took me to Caines at Abode to celebrate two years. Lovely tasting menu, except for an utterly revolting Mrs Bells blue cheese course. They've thrown everything at hiding that hideous cheese and ended up with something even worse. I don't often refuse to eat something but that did it.

Is £750 to have a 2 bed semi detached house painted a good ballaprk figure? Living room, kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom? I figured 5 hours a room at £25 an hour plus materials.

Even though I know the phonetic alphabet, I usually struggle to call it to mind when I need it, and typically make my own up in unhelpful and often inappropriate fashion.

It cost me £1,000 to get my one-bed flat redecorated a few years ago. That was stripping existing wallpaper, putting up lining paper and then painting it in magnolia.

So that was a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom and a vestibule leading to the bathroom.

That was also the cheapest quote we got, by quite some margin.

So yeah, I'd say £750 for a 2 bed semi is pretty good.

Assuming that's a figure you've guessed at, rather than one you've been quoted, I think you've probably lowballed it a bit. Call it closer to £1000-£1200.

What you're neglecting to take into account is that painting sucks balls, especially if you want it done properly, so lots of people are happy to pay well over real-terms-cost to have someone else do it.

We weren't happy to pay, which is why the hall/landing look a mess because we've only done one coat in several months. And why 2.5 of the 7 new (in September) doors are done.

I'm cheap and I don't live in that house. It needs to be sold soon, and the wife's pushing harder on this at the moment. Despite still having a loft and garage full of stuff and no estate car to move it in, and nowhere to put it. I think she likes finding new ways to spend my money.
