This is our new Kitten Misty, she is the sister of the one who passed away.

She is really great and I’m amazed by how different she is personality wise, she likes to sleep on chairs only, she sleeps most of the day and is very gentle and cautious with new things.

I gave her a ping pong ball to play with the other day, she won’t play with it on the hard floor in the kitchen but goes mental on the carpet in the hall with it.

Miss Malabar rescued some orphaned ducklings from the water treatment works yesterday. They've been taken to an animal sanctuary now, because the RSPB told us to piss off. Ducks. And then the little one had the biggest shit on my leg. No wonder it's so fucking small.

Talking of ducklings... I nearly ran over a dozen of them & their mammy this morning. If there had been someone coming the other way I'd have needed to :S

not hawks, unless they have show tags. One came down injured in a family member's garden and the RSPB weren't interested. I think the RSPB hate birds.

She was very shy when we got her home, and quite worn out from the travelling. But for some reason, as soon as we put a harness on her to get her used to it (don’t ask), she completely calmed down and started getting obscenely friendly. She’s going to be well sociable, this one. And batshit fucking mental.

She's a cross between a Norwegian Forest Cat, which is a hardy little furry bastard, and an Abyssinian, which are generally extroverted, mental little shits. This bodes so, so well…

We’re teaching it to skydive.

 They’re not really outdoor cats, apparently. And especially with how mental and agile they are, they can’t really be trusted not to kill themselves, or all the other cats in the street. They’re not the typical ‘sit on the garden fence, watching the world go by’ cats. So they’ll be on a lead if they go out. But fuck knows, frankly… Rach is the one sorting all of this shit out.

I don't think so, but I don't know how much. I've remained removed from this whole thing, telling Miss Malabelm if she wants a cat so much, she's doing all the work and covering all of the costs. So we have a cat now, and my wallet is precisely as empty as when I last looked at it.

Very well, she is a lovely little cat, very affectionate and never scrounges food even when we are eating. She will do her own thing most days but always ends up on your knee at the end of the day.

It’s a bit random whose knee she sits on each night and whoever she chooses gets her for the night, but as some point she always gets up and sits on the other persons knee for 2 minutes before she moves back to her first choice, its like she feels bad for leaving one of out.

We were a bit worried that she would be different after 2 weeks in the cat hotel, aside from being a big bigger and ignoring us for a bit she is very happy to be home and even more affectionate if anything.

Aren't Norwegian Forest Cats the ones that grow huge and monstrous and massive? The Vikings bred them as attack animals to use on the battlefield, or something like that. A full grown male can bite through a man's fibia.

No, I'm pretty certain it's Norwegian Cats. Can tear out the throat of an Elk, immune to the cold, worshipped by pagan tribes, used to carry off small children to their lairs. Definitely cats.

She can also be a little fucker as well, she went outside as normal tonight and after 2 hours she wasn't back and wouldn't respond to calls (she usualy appears within 2 mins)

I found her 20ft up a fir tree at the bottom of the garden, I had to get a double ladder out and she refused to help herself down in any way :D

Just came back from the vets after Twitch's post-knockout checkup (he's fine, btw), and while we were waiting I saw a really traumatic sight. A whippet was brought in with her entire backend in a makeshift sling so the owners could help her walk. Completely incontinent and obviously paralysed. They had the appointment before us, so we got to talk to one of the people who'd come in with her. Apparently she'd been hit by a car, but the people who were with her were angry because "she'd just been sold on to someone else the week before". What sort of person sells on their pets to other people? That's completely alien to me. Seeing an animal as a possession instead of a little life entrusted to you who becomes a part of your family. I just barely managed to hold my tongue as this woman tutted and huffed at the inconvenience this had caused them.

Selling it on is better than what usually happens to whippets & greyhounds when they no longer serve their purpose :/

That's what I was thinking. To them it's a business asset.

Had some friends around at the weekend to stay, they have 3 girls aged 8, 6 and 3.

The Kitten was fine with them, but they girls made a bit of noise which she was not used to so she kept going outside as the racket scared her a bit.

By 9.30pm I was getting a bit worried so I got a torch and went to look for her, I shone it down the bottom of the garden and saw a pair of cats eyes reflected in the light. So I went down to get her.

It turned out the eyes belonged to another cat, the kitten was crouched down in front of this cat about 3 foot away having a staring competition!

The other cat ran away when I got down there and I scoped up mine and bought her back inside.

I’m very proud that she can hold her ground at such a young age :DD

You appear to be ignoring me. This wasn't an ex-racing whippet, this was a pet. She was chipped and registered to these people, hence why they were left with the responsibility of care after the new owners just abandoned her at the vets.

I was at the vet on Thursday and while we were waiting, there was one other person sitting, an old man. We'd only been there about a minute when one of the vets came out an exam room and handed him an empty carry cage, whilst giving him an arm round the shoulder. The old man just dissolved into tears and hurried out the front door. I was trying to stop myself from crying as well and started giving Willow lots of hugs. When I looked up, the woman behind the reception desk was in floods as well. So sad. :(

We're planning on getting another dog and occasionally look on the Internet for litters. I'm always amazed when I see adverts for dogs which are a few years old. I could never give willow to someone else.

Right on. Without any caveats whatsoever, if you think animals are just mere possessions and commodities, you are scum.
