Saw the headline for this article in the Guaradiannanans:

The Five Best Hangover Games

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/ga ... over-games

And I thought, what a brilliant idea for an article.

Then I saw his choices. Fuck me, I wouldn't be touching any of those, apart from Harvest Moon, after a heavy night.

Mario 64? Juddery motion puking
Eve? My head's hurting, I don't want it collapse in on itself like a fucked galactic brain star.

When I'm feeling delicate, I need:

Just Cause 2. Playful, directionless aggression. I can do what I wish and not feel harried.

Football: Fifa or Pro Evo, doesn't matter which. A brace of goaless draws will have me switching off, however.

New Star Soccer on iOS. Not really football. Not really sure what it is. But there's a pleasant zen to drifting from match to match, pleasing my sponsors and buying a disgusting gold watch.

Wanking.

I play MAME if I'm hung over.

No game in particular, just like the fact there are 1000,s to choose from.

I've not read TFA, but Eve is ever so relaxing if you just zone out and mine. Drag, drop, drag, drop...

[edit]Have read TFA now, and totally agree with what he said about Eve. The others, though...

I'd also nominate things like Roller Coaster Tycoon or Sim City.

No gaming for me when I'm hung over.

Just sleeping with my balls tightly cupped.

I'm the same with Lee Ryan's Twitter feed. Read the feeds of his more vocal followers. It's like staring into an abyss of desperate, utter fucking madness.

Mainstream newspaper journo in no clue about games non-shocker.

EvE? Has he played it or is he basing it on that PC Gamer interview? Does he realize how fucking small the text is? Does he want to pile lingering-alcohol-blurriness-induced eyestrain headache atop hangover headache? I think EvE is an excellent PRE-hangover game as if you drink along with the amusing DJs on EvE Radio or end up getting stuck in nullsec on a long roam and keep drinking as you go, you'll get very very fucked and then maybe fall asleep while harvesting gas.

Actually good hangover games are:
-Catan. Nice, big, chunky graphics and a leisurely pace (and soothing music on the 360 version) so you can close your eyes and groan for a while between turns.
-Virtual Pool/Jimmy White's 2/etc. Good pre/postpub gaming as well as for the morning after. Especially Jimmy White's 2 with its peaceful (and deserted) virtual game rooms to drift around feeling tranquil.
-Minecraft. Hypnotically build a big wall or something and forget your troubles.
-Fallout/Elder Scrolls. If you can't face real fresh air, a walk through the pretend wilderness isn't too bad, and anything that attacks you will get extra fury rained down upon it for daring to disturb you.
-Transport Tycoon. Perhaps not so much concentrating on building a tricky route as just using the 'pass signal at danger' button to direct trains more quickly through a congested junction. Just don't get overconfident or a crash will make you wince.
