Aw chick. Is it because of the Beexbecue today? I was awake until four because in my head I was checking off a work order line by line from midnight until about 2am. Couldn't stop doing it, don't know why. Every time I started to think of something else it crept back in. Now I've woken up again at 6am because that's the time I wake up on weekdays and my stupid body refuses to do weekends.

Hope you're asleep now dreaming of burgers :)

I was going to have toast, but the bread was off. So I had a packet of hula hoops and some dried pineapple.

I've had insomnia since I was 13. Often in bouts, but it has been so much better this past year than I think any time since I was a child, so I'm thankful for that

I slept well last night, but woke up three times on Thursday night/Friday morning. Bad dreams, too warm. Loads of stuff.

Likewise I suck at sleeping, big time.

Last night was particularly evil - went to bed early (about 1am!) as I was on a 10am-10pm shift at work today, was still awake at 2:30, slept-ish but woken up at 4:00, finally slept 5-6 and... yup, that was about all I got!

Whooooop.

*running on fumes*

Onóra decided last night that 2.30am to 5am was playtime.

Ugh.

When I have to be up at 5am for work I get so tense and anxious about needing a good night's sleep so I don't black out and crash the car on the way to work that I... can't fall asleep. In spite of getting up early the day before and going to bed around 9pm after a day of physical exertion to try and tire myself out.

Eventually I get into the sleep pattern, just in time for the early shifts to end. That's why I woke up at 6:33am on Sunday morning despite a night of hard partying at the BBQ, my body clock still thought it was set to early.

I hate to think what it must be like for the guys who do night shifts too in my place. One of them always looks almost dead when I arrive, while another always laughs heartily at my discomfort.

It would probably help if I actually went to bed.
Which would require being at home, or something.

My sleep can be a real pain, I run 5-6 miles a couple of times a week, when in bed after doing this I generally can’t keep my eyes open and sleep like a log, but sometimes I wake up after 45 minutes and then can’t get off again.

The worse things for me are what the wife calls “night terrors” ,some years ago they were almost as bad a sleep walking. I would get up and walk around the house, my wife found that I would be total obedient to her and come back to bed when she told me to!

There days I still have the terrors but they are odd dreams where I wake up for a while but still think I’m dreaming then I fall asleep again. Although I can seldom remember details the theme is always one of two things. Either it’s something trying to get into the house, or I have an impossible task to do like count all the grains of sand on a beach.

They are usually related to me having had a drink a few days before hand. I had a couple of drinks over the last 2 nights and had a classic last night.

It was the old something is trying to get into the house terror, but this time in the dream my wife was the one telling me this, so when I woke up I was asking her what she was scared of waking her up in the process.

Not had a real person involved in the terror dream before, it makes them even worse!

I had a friend with night terrors, and the first time I slept in the same house as her she screamed like a white girl in a Wes Anderson film in the middle of the night and I shat myself.

Got to see her bewbies, though :p

Was that during the clean up of the shit or after, as a way of trying to take your mind off the dirty sheets?

That was when I shouldered my way into the room thinking she was being stabbed, and she was sitting up in bed (still asleep).

Apparently, the light next to her bed (which was still on) had come to life, and the bulb had come out and was chasing her around the room, with wires hanging out of the back and sparks coming off it and shit. She said if I hadn't woken her she would have kept on sleeping and not remembered in the morning 8)

I've started using an app called sleep cycle to record my sleep patterns - it's surprisingly amazing!!

You put your phone on the bed and it records your body movement throughout the night and then charts when you are awake, asleep and in deep sleep. It explains what the 'ideal' is, so can get an idea of just how good (or in my case, bloody awful) your sleep is. Once you've done it 5 times it starts showing you comparisons - best night, worse night etc.

To take advantage of all this, I keep a quick note of what I've done that day (if there's been a particularly good / bad incident and whether I've been at work or not) and if I've had anything to drink (and if so how much) and then when I look at the graphs from all my sleeps I can start to see what is causing better / worse nights of sleep.

Basically, booze ruins sleep. Fact.

Stress aint so good for it either. :(

At the moment, my head hits the pillow and before I know it, it's time to get up. I'm lucky I guess.

Indeed! If someone could sell The Ability To Sleep, they'd be a gazillionaire
