Has anyone else been periodically losing Xbox Live connection over the last few days? It's happening about once an hour for me. Sometimes longer sometimes less.

Use the homeplug things like the ones I bought.

I'm tempted, but they're about £60 or so aren't they? The problem is - I'm not sure if this house is wired sufficiently for them to work, so it's a potential waste of money!

I bought these:

Worked fine after a quick question on beex.

Will check it out! Cheers man!

edit: So if I wanted to plug my PS3 and 360 into them, would I need some sort of hub to give me more than one ethernet hole?

Never had much trouble using XBox Live with wi fi. What's actually happening? Are you losing network connection to the XBox or just connection to XBox Live? Are you using the official MS wireless adaptor? I had 2 wireless routers (BT home hubs) with one set up as a repeater wired into the XBox.

Yes you will need some sort of hub/router if you wanted to connect more than one device into a homeplug thing.

It's a 360 Slim, so WiFi is built in. There's no definite indication that the WiFi is at fault, but I'm pretty sure it is. I simply lose connection to Xbox Live - nothing pops up that indicates the WiFi has died or anything, and I can usually reconnect to Xbox Live immediately. However, the wireless router I have (BE's basic model) is weak as piss, so I'm almost certain that's the case. I think the connection is just getting weak enough for Xbox Live to boot me out, without the Xbox actually losing the connection altogether.

To be honest, it has been pretty flaky since I moved here, having always used wired connection in the past. Also, Halo Reach gives you a breakdown of your connection quality (NAT Type, upload speed, and something else), and barring my NAT Type which is fine, the other two are coloured red and say "warning" or something, so the connection is obviously a bit shonky. Definitely gonna try those homeplugs out when I get some cash spare.

Also, using the Speed Test app on my iPhone, the WiFi is slow as shit. I get <20ms and 16Mb/s on my computer (wired into the router), and a pathetic 120ms and 5Mb/s via WiFi on my iPhone.

Back at home with my expensive router and Virgin Media the pings and speeds were almost identical on my wired computer and the iPhone via WiFi. So clearly it's not a particularly capable router - although occasionally I do get a decent ping on the iPhone Speed Test app, so it's not only shit, but sporadic. There must be interference somewhere, or it's just shit.

RMD!

And Grim... "cheap" is the important factor here. Not "industrial strength". I know you. I just want to turn one hole into two holes. Or maybe four.

Wait, why would you buy an ethernet hub rather than just a third homeplug?

Only one wall socket near the TV? Two homeplugs on a trailer bar is a recipe for disaster.

This thing's pretty cool (assuming it works).

ETA: Or this if you just want multiple network points from a single plug point.

Come to the BB2 and you can have my homeplugs and a 4-port hub for, um, a bottle of jagermeister.

Some useful tips here.

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live/connecting/performance

At least you can find out whether the XBox reckons it's got enough signal for Live to work properly.

When I gave my 4 homeplugs away recently I asked for postage.

My home plugs arrived this morning, along with a hub. It works! At 100Mb/s, too! (The hub is Max 100, the homeplugs capable of 200 apparently, but I'm happy with 100.)

Now to find out if my 360 still disconnects constantly...

Certainly seems quicker. The friends list still takes forever to load though, and scrolling through ten or so friends results in more blank space and another wait for more avatars to load. Is that just how Xbox Live is at this point?

Probably. Although you realise the acid test is to actually go and play a game online rather than sitting in the menus scrolling back and forward and frowning to yourself?

I just played Halo Reach, so shut your face!

I'd be interested to hear if more people have noticed that with the friends list though, because mine is terrible! I think it's only since this new dashboard.
