If you don't shed a tear at certain parts of this, you are quite truly dead inside. Really quite an adult theme and contains sequences of utter joy and brilliance.

Haven't seen it, but is it just me or has this been advertised for *months* before actually coming out at the cinema?

Not really. At least in terms of hype, its nowhere near the coverage that The Dark Knight Returns has got.

See, I was completely and utterly put off by the trailers, which make it look utter shit. It's like every single children's movie, regardless of its level of sophistication, has to have an intelligence-insulting montage of belching, flatulence, things being hit on the head and falling over, etc etc etc, to promote it.

It was only when I read the review of Wall-E in the (not mine, honest guv) Express that it started to sound good to me. And now I really wanna see it!

Saw it yesterday, best Pixar film since Toy Story 2.

And extra mention to the short Presto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presto_(film) that was shown immediately before the main film - I bet it reminded more than one of you of Portal.

Why yes I have, and yes it is. Awesome. Did you catch that bit right at the end where you see the monster actually arrive? No one else seems to see it without me pointing it out to them, which has earned me several smug points ever since getting it on DVD, let me tell you.

Pixar are so good at anthropormorphising that I often wonder if they could successfully do a completely speech-less feature length film. I mean Scratch worked, and that was a decent length.

I had heard that Wall-E was a modern Citizen Kane. Is this true, or had the film journo had one too many freebies?

Not entirely sure what the journo in question was getting at.

However, the themes within it are pretty deep. I'm not going to get into the "is it for kids" debate because a good film is a good film, irrespective of the age of the viewer. The most obvious theme is of humanity's waste and decadence, destruction of the environment and so on.

I can see some strange 'breaking surf' like an exposed reef, but beyond that nothing that I can guess at the monster. However, if you freeze-frame when the video goes static-wibbly on impact in the helicopter crash, you can see a very amusing subliminal image spliced in there.

Cloverfield is halfway to awesome, halfway to being the best monster movie ever. Some of the script and characters let it down though. So, so close. Gngh.

I'm off to see Wall-E tonight. Can't wait!

I had to look for this last night. Right at the end of the film, but before the credits, is where the tape runs out and it goes back to footage of their day at Coney Island. The footage starts pointing out over the water, and just to the right of the screen you can see something fall into the water, just before the camera swings back to inside the ferris wheel (or whatever they're in).

Going to see Wall-E on Wednesday because if you have an Orange phone, it's two-for-one at 'participating cinemas'.

But I'm only going because of this thread, so it'd better be good.

Remove 'since Toy Story 2' and I agree. We just watched it this afternoon. It's the best film I've seen since Eternal Sunshine, and I'm thinking it may be one of the massively rare 'wow' films.

There are loads of nice tiny moments, too, such as Wall-E's start-up noise, or the very last bit at the end of the credits (after the WD and Pixar logos), which was a real laugh-out-loud for me.

First there was The Firefly Incident, and now this.

There is a list, Kalmar, a list you do not want to be on. Currently, the list holder's pen is hovering above the blank space at the bottom of the list, and his brain is sending the message to his hand to form a "K" on the page. You have a very few microseconds to redeem yourself.

Saw it last night, it was glorious. One of the best cinematic experiences I've had, and I left all warm and glowy.

Also stick through for the ending credits. Despite being beautifully animated and telling a story in themselves, idiots were filtering out through them. I suspect they were the same idiots who laughed through the reprehensible trailer for the diabolical looking 'King of the Jungle 2' or whatever it is. "Let's see, what happened in the last film - they escaped from New York to get back to their island. Genius. Now let's have them escape the island to get back to New York! Wow, we am clever!" And they were all brutally slain by Eve for the good of the species.

But enough negativity, it is an incredibly glorious film and makes you care. I also sniffled in parts.

I agree, Kalmar is on very thin ice. All it takes is him saying, "I hate Eerie Indianna" or, "Meh, The Princess Bride is overated," and he's gone for good.

Actually I'd never seen the Princess Bride until about a month ago. Perhaps due to seeing it for the first time in the cold light of adulthood I thought it was overrated, not shit or anything just a bit meh.

The original is everything that is wrong with CGI movies. Granted it does have some funny moments, but it doesn't have characters, a coherent plot and anything resembling love poured into it. Just a set of box ticking exercises.

Five minute sketches hung together... check!
Wacky pop culture references... check!
Moral ending... check!
Illogical characters doing illogical things... check!

Way to go boys, now get them plastered on the windows of the local junk food joint and we're in business.

It did make me mad though. Seeing how much heart and soul and brains had been poured into Wall-E by Pixar with its original plot, beautiful universe and complete comprehensiveness of vision - and then seeing the lazy re-heat of that Madagascar trailer. I just don't see how they can be doing what they're doing, putting so much money and time into such obviously lazy designs and ideas when they could be showing us anything, and telling us any story. Oogh. It makes me cross.

Wall-E makes me happy though. Very happy.

It did me too, actually. Especially because everyone who was leaving turned around and were baffled by it entirely, expecting a little skit.

Seeing as I'm determined to start going to the movies more often, I figured I'd get a movie stream going on Revert to Saved, so there's now a more considered opinion from me here.

Did you like how they progressed the illustrations up to sort of 8-bit game graphics and left it there? That was a nice touch.

One minor thing which spoiled it for me slightly was the *fucking* anti-piracy advert just before the film. Which included all the major scenes from Wall-E, to make some redundant point that I can't even remember.

Anyway, fortunately I soon forgot that, such was the excellence of the film.

I would love to see Wall-E in the cinema, being a cgi 'student' and lover (really) of all things Pixar, the Geri's Game short in particular. BUT... I can't bear going to the cinema to see kids movies, especially during the summer holidays, doubly since I live in Liverpool and I swear the hateful little bastards see the Odeon as a great big, expensive, dark mischief box.

Sigh... I never seen a pixar in cinema, aside Toy Story at the Teesside Uni student cinema. Really just a lecture theatre with a mahoosive screen.

Then go to a late showing. In this area, WALL•E is on until about 10:30, and the cinemas aren't exactly stuffed full of mewling brats around that time. (Sadly, we went at about 3pm on Monday, and some annoying little sod four seats away from me asked his mum a question about literally every single thing that happened in the film. The most stupid of these was when Gnh. Luckily, our local cinemas have ear-splitting volume levels, and so he was mostly drowned out. And although my wife had a go at me for being mean for my slightly too loud "I wish that kid would shut the hell up", it was rather telling that his own mother eventually graduated from answering his questions to saying "Shh! Just watch and you'll find out" every time. Eventually, the kid did actually shut up, too.)

Not a bad idea. You know, I never even considered that a kids film would be on later than about 7pm. Due to my advancing years though, I might be prodded awake by an usher as the credits are rolling and have to wipe the wife's sleep drool off my shoulder.

We saw it yesterday at about 6pm, and I don't think there was a single child in there. It was all young couples and the occasional creepy old man.

Craster and I went to see a film many years ago. Can't remember the name - it was a Robert Redford one about some sort of computer hackers or something. Anyway. We were about 14 and the cinema was fairly empty except for us and a guy in a dirty mac at the back of the cinema quite clearly touching himself.

Being a responsible and considerate teenager, Craster went over and offered to help.

EDIT - Sneakers. That's it.

Sneakers is a great film. I missed most of the second half though.
